I’m glad gay guys are talking about the discrimination they face but I’m really getting sick of them bringing up the same talking points about how we’re so much more accepted and people just dumbing down our struggles to just fetishization. The word lesbian is treated like a dirty word among sapphics (ex: the uprise of wlw.) We are constantly treated like the butt of the joke, for example “you look like a lesbian, you have a lesbian haircut, you dress like a lesbian”. People don’t respect our sexuality so much so to the point that we’ve been having to argue with people constantly that our sexuality doesn’t include men while people keep literally insisting it does. We also have people making up new variants of lesbian such as bi lesbian, pan lesbian which is extremely harmful to lesbians because for some reason they don’t want to use bi so bad. People who are supposed to be culturally queer actively spread conversion therapy and corrective rape rhetoric by telling us our sexuality is fluid and implying that we will someday change our mind and find the right man. We have queers who force themselves into lesbian spaces and tell us that we shouldn’t use labels because it’s “restricting”. We have non lesbian sapphics trying to erase the lesbian identity itself so we can just become “this huge big community” again and no one can tell the difference between who is who. An example of this is non lesbian sapphics refusing to see there are differences between non lesbian sapphics and lesbians. We have non lesbian queer women who actively call themselves lesbians so they can play into men’s dykebreaking fantasies or will do stuff together so that it can please men. Both straight women and men actively dehumanize us, treat us like creatures or dumb us down to just a porn category. We are rarely represented in the media and the few times we are represented people in the fandom will actively ignore the sapphic couple for a gay side story. Political “lesbians”. People actively demonize us for anything, there’s always some new think piece about how we’re evil. People are always trying to find ways to blame lesbians for everything. People get mad at us for wanting our own spaces or setting boundaries with other queers. People don’t think we’re allowed to have preferences within our own community. People can’t have conversations about lesbians without people bringing up men. People hate and can’t grasp the fact that we just don’t like men and I’m sure there’s a lot more that I’m not mentioning. The lesbian experience is so isolating and it feels like any time you expect some non lesbian queers to back you up or acknowledge us they just show how much they don’t care about us.

dude i don't normally like to dig at peoples fun i generally think people having fun is good but it is slightly disheartening when there's a really really good story about a strong platonic relationship and then the only thing the fans can do is ship the characters or worse make a crack ship with an unrelated character from another media because it's like they can't STAND a lack of romance in media like they absolutely must try to insert romance where it is absolutely not needed or relevant and honestly sours the story/media a lot more for me or they'll Die because they can't just be happy with a really good platonic relationship. it makes me very sad as a demiromantic girlie.
