being someone who started therapy specifically because I was struggling so much with my kink, I had to seek out a sex therapist. said therapist then became my in-general therapist, who I love and appreciate very much but tbh it’s probably good that I’m having to find a new one because I don’t think I’m getting the right kind of help that I need with all of the other issues going on with me. I’m not totally sure how to go about finding someone who isn’t a sex therapist but still could help me with ongoing struggles with shame/doubts/moral panic about it. I’m in a much better place now than I was, and I’m sure that there are plenty of therapists out there who value body autonomy. the likelihood of opening up about it and being met with shaming is so much lower than I used to imagine. my paranoid mind had me terrified that I would be diagnosed with a paraphilic disorder and be treated with conversion therapy, so. I know that won’t happen and that I have the power to find a new therapist if they make me feel bad. I found my last therapist using the filters “HAES informed” and “kink-friendly” on therapyden.com, so I might try that again, but right now someone who can help me with my cptsd, anxiety, audhd, and suicidality/pmdd (AND my transition, good lord) is gonna have to take precedence. sorry for rambling. anyway, I would advise anyone who is considering opening up to their therapists about feedism to go for it! if they’re unfamiliar, you’ll get the chance to define it on your terms with someone who is there to support your desires and wellbeing. I think it could be incredibly empowering! I’ve got issues out the WAZOO with feedism & internalized fatphobia (my dad’s a lobbyist for ozempic/wegovy. I once worked with an eating disorder dietician who said the fatphobia I grew up around was the worst case she had ever seen). I was buried deep, DEEP in the muck of shame, secrecy, and self-hatred and my sex therapist helped me overcome mountains of it! there’s still a ways to go (I feel like maybe I’m backsliding bc of my other mental health issues?) but I highly, HIGHLY recommend having a professional reassure you that feedism is okay. best of luck to you too!
