if i was a prolific author i would constantly write romantic and sexual tension between two characters only to reveal that one of them was either dead and the other had been hallucinating them as alive and sleeping with their corpse for years, or that one of them had a previous lover who died whose rotting dessicated remains they had faithfully slept beside in bed since the event and saw no issue with when they revealed the situation to their prospective new partner. i would do this so often that it would become my signature and everyone would be sick of me for it.
