Commodore is the beloved horse of Lady Alcina Dimitrescu, the only ‘man-thing’ that she loves and he in turn, adores her. Both can be seen on leisurely rides in springtime with the triplets (who the stallion is ever patient with) or on hunts for game or to keep the lycan population in check. They can also be spotted in the stables of Castle Dimitrescu but going alone and uninvited is not recommended as he adores a dinner of human flesh…
Commodore was born in 1941 in Northern France before being sold years later (at nineteen hands tall) to a Romanian nobleman, who enjoyed using him for pulling carriages and riding through his country estate, delighting his high society friends.
Only once, was he struck out of impatience by a young groom and the horse’s response was a sharp, sudden bite that broke skin, hinting at a fire that was there but not provoked often.
This idyllic life came to an end when the country fell under Communist control. The horses of the nobility were confiscated and sent to farms or state owned stables. Commodore’s master was arrested one day and he never saw the man or his old home again…
Commodore had never been broken for hard labor or been owned by those he deemed beneath him, he was the horse of nobility! Bred for only the high society after all. He was forced to work on a farm where he was given work sometimes meant for three or more horses, yelled at and struck by peasants.
One day he snapped and attacked a man trying to force him to stand up after he collapsed and escaping the farm after he broke free of his harness. He was later recaptured and instead of being killed he was entrusted to the care of a high ranking official who felt he was capable of breaking the stallion, turning him into a living demonstration of what the new regime was capable of.
This is where Commodore, a deeply angry and cautious horse that struck at any man ho came near him, was given his name by a Lady Alcina Dimitrescu, a former noblewoman and jazz singer who married Commodore’s new owner to protect herself from being arrested or worse. Alcina, an accomplished horsewoman and admirer of horses since she was very young, took it upon herself to train the stallion.
Commodore (named for a rank Alaina’s deceased father once held) soon grew very close with the woman, responding very well to her kindness and her clear knowledge of horses. This delighted the woman’s husband though Commodore never allowed him on his back without protest. Alcina, who was of course deeply unhappy in her marriage, spent every spare moment she could with the stallion. She even protected him after he threw her husband off his back at a parade.
Later on, Commodore would escape with his mistress and a mysterious “Mother Miranda”, whom he was not fond of as she smelled very odd, to a remote village where a cadou parasite was surgically implanted. As a result, he grew even larger than before, his eyes faced forward, his teeth sharpened and his diet changed to favor meat over plants. During his time in the lab, he could only think of his mistress and if she was alright.
When he saw Alcina again, much taller and stronger, he happily nickered and trotted up to her, and nuzzled her as he usually did. Miranda was thanked by him roughly biting her.
Years passed slowly, and for Commodore they were very happy. Commodore would later chase a young Karl Heisenberg after he went into the Castle stables, chasing the boy across the castle grounds before Alcina saved the boy.
Bella, Cassandra, and Daniela were very fond of the big horse and he was as gentle as a powder puff with them, allowing them to sit on him and braid his mane and tale as well as giving him snacks of carrots and man-flesh.
In the year 2021, however, the black horse lost his beloved mistress and her three daughters…and his life too. The Duke purchased the Crystal Stallion quite happily saying to Ethan:
“Ah, Commodore, majestic in death as he was in life, the only “man” she was fond of, I hear”
I really wanted to draw this big man again since I haven’t in a while and my resident evil obsession came back in full force after Requiem came out and…I need to practice with horses a LOOOTTT more! Let me know what you think as I love hearing thoughts and ideas!
