Edward Pettigrew

-Aged between late fifties to early sixties and is the oldest driver.

-A kind gentleman but wont hesitate to put someone (Bill and Ben mostly) in their place and explain why he did it.

-Tends to be impatient (a remnant of his younger days)

-He enjoys reading as a hobby

-One of the first people actually excited to have Ducky on the railway and Ducky in turn is glad to have a supportive friend as she navigates her new home. Edward was also a good friend of Ducky’s late father so he’d do anything to keep the girl safe and happy.

…And that’s all I’ve made up for him so far!

Gordon The Big Beast

Gordon is the largest of Topham’s original fleet of steam beasts and one of the meanest, especially since he has a high opinion of himself due to his breeding and has experienced some bad treatment at the hands of his former owners. If you aren’t careful, he will swipe you aside with his claws or his tail…or he will just step on you.

He was the first born calf from Nigel Gresley’s freshly purchased steam beast pair that would be used to breed strong new express beasts. Gordon spent more than twelve months in his mother before he was born, remarkably healthy but overdue as most steam beasts (especially big ones) are pregnant for eleven to twelve months! Calf Gordon was also a little bigger than expected too but thankfully both he and his mother were alright.

After a year, Gordon began his training to be a proper express steamie around the same time his brother (later known as The Flying Scotsman). Training was hard back in those days and Gordon wasn’t always treated kindly by those holding a bull hook or a whip.

When he was finally old enough, he left the ranch and went to run on the GNR where he was painted green but wasn’t allowed to pull coaches or really even interact much either other steam beasts and some workers were very eager to swing the bull hook when he misbehaved, which led to him being difficult and angry especially he was forced to be cooped up.

Sir Topham Hatt later purchased him when he was in need of a large express beast and Gordon was sent to Sodor and gifted the number four and a brand new harness and even new paint for his armored shell. He would also be forced to interact with others of his kind that he had never seen before which caused some hiccups (especially with Henry as Gordon wanted to establish dominance). Staying on Sodor also later saved him from the slaughter of his many of his siblings…

He has a cat that sleeps in his mane at night and he would never admit that he likes it as he’s quite lonely and wouldn’t admit it to the others but he’d like the chance to maybe start a family of his own if he meets the right dam which is very possible as new beasts seem to arrive every month.

He got on very well with the late Harlen Calloway as he wasn’t interested in just making Gordon behave or pull unwanted specials without a fuss but instead treated him as he would any other human worthy of respect and dignity. It helped that Harlen seemed to enjoy the company of beasts more than humans. Gordon hasn’t really gotten on with Harlen’s daughter, Ducky, but she isn’t half bad commonly from what Edward says and she’s very cuddly too.

Harlen Calloway, a slender but sturdy man with uncombed hair, never really got on with humans but was always a pleasant and respectful fellow to everyone he worked with, human or engine. Maybe his antisocial nature was caused by losing so many people around him or just because he never really had the urge to connect with others.

With engines or his young daughter, however, the man lit up and forgot about his troubles for a few hours.

During his time on Sodor, he met the number two engine, Edward, and got on handsomely with him. Perhaps it was the fact that Edward was actually pleasant to be around and that Harlen treated him like an old friend rather than a machine.

Since Father’s Day was yesterday, I wanted to do something related to Ducky’s dad, Harlen, but nothing was turned out right so there’s this instead.

Lava-Clutch Lizards

Large, intimidating ambush predators that prefer to live in volcanic mountain ranges where they hunt and wallow in mud holes all day. However, due to their rarity on the mainland, the hare now predominantly found on islands. The price for eggs and live specimens has ballooned to a whopping one thousand Moolah.

Like the extinct fragons, these creatures possess a a very powerful bite force capable of snapping bones, as well as having a similar nasal horn structure and fire resistant skin which aids them in hunting.

Despite living in and around mountain ranges, they have poor eyesight which their noses make up for, as they possess one of the best noses on Oddworld! One that allows them to sniff past the sulfur and smoke.

Larger forelimbs aid in both climbing and in hunting prey such as tares and kintos. While hunting, they simply wait next to the mineral deposits that prey animals need to consume and will either reach out and snag prey in with their claws or cause a chokehold in the cave where it will then feast and when it is done it will simply go back to its den (a large labyrinth of tunnels that they will dig) and sleep. Thanks to their low intelligence, they don’t overthink it.

Eggs are buried in holes dug by the mother where they are incubated and camouflaged from any would be predators. Lava-clutch lizard parents don’t mate for life and aren’t nearly as good at parenting as their flying kin.

These remnants of a wilder Oddworld are threatened by the wildlife trade, culinary industry, and even fashion companies such as Vice Couture who make expensive handbags (which Nakau- Val, Evie,has said are quote: “Fucking tiny and not even pretty. Who would pay that much for that?!”) out of their skin and armored shells. These accessories are enjoyed by figures such as Queen Skillya, Lady Bianca, Lady Carmen, and Anastasia Murkoff.

Lava-clutch lizards are also found in gladiator rings, the Nolybab Zoo, private menageries, and even circuses (at least for those that can afford them). Glenlak circus owner “Tarnuk The Great” owning a set that pulls a carriage in his parade and performs in his show. There is even evidence that in times long past, mudokon tribes that lived in close by, actually tamed and used them.

Fragon and lizard eggs are indeed very similar in appearance but can be distinguished by their size, nesting habits and if there is evidence of a devoted set of fragon parents nearby.

Nakau-Val, Evie, believes that this is most likely how Skye’s egg came to be in the possession of both her and Abe and why it was being transported in an airship. This still leaves several questions unanswered. How was Skye’s egg found and where? Are Skye’s biological parents looking for him? Are there more fragon eggs being mistaken for lava-clutch lizards eggs?

All things considered, lava-clutch lizards are very cute.
