God just. Imagine being Ryland Grace. Imagine it being decided for you that the best and only worthwhile thing you can do with your life is die. Imagine wanting to live so badly just for the sake of being alive. Imagine having your life and agency torn away from you bit by bit until you literally don’t know who you are anymore. Imagine your worst sin is that you were scared. And then imagine someone comes along and says you get to live. They’d be the first person I’d be willing to die for too.

Rocky has plenty, in fact, Rocky had enough food for 23 eridians for a bit over 30 years (because they were also expected to make the jorney back) Rocky has so much food, and he cant give any to grace because it will kill him. Every meal he makes he can hear Grace's body slowly collapsing in on itself from hunger. Rocky has to sit there, with way more than enough food for 2 and still watch his best friend starve to death.

Can you imagine being stuck in space completely alone with only the corpses of your friends for company, and the first living thing you meet after 46 years of that misery is a fucking weird alien creature who just rolls up with crazy advanced tech and goes "hi let's work together" and makes it possible for you to save your world through the power of friendship and molecular biology. AND THEN you find out that in this creature's language, its name means "mercy". Happened to my good friend Rocky btw
