my skills include being a sleepyhead and a sweetiepie
both 30 years old, born on the same day at precisely the same millisecond, but she was born in the state of Arizona which does not observe daylight savings time so one could possibly make the (weak) argument that she's an hour older. problematic age gap?
alright alright how about this other chick. she was born orbiting a black hole and due to relativistic effects currently unexplained by established models we are both 14 million years younger than eachother. help me with the ethics of this
definitionally yes
People asking why Artemis II matters, lemme tell you
1. First woman to enter deep space, Christina Koch, went as a mission specialist to help test the preventative measures against the radiation that causes cancer in the ships, and primarily affects women. It affects men too but less so. Christina's literally so inspiring to me.
2. This mission and further Artemis missions are testing safety concerns to help push the boundary of what we've been able to explore up to this point. Safety is the primary purpose of the trip. This is the first step to exploring Mars and further planets! Including Europa (my beloved.)
3. Before this, only 24 humans have ever entered deep space. Of that 24, 5 are alive today and they're all in their 90s. We very much needed a newer trip to help confirm or change whatever information we had from years and years ago. Having 4 living testaments of space exploration is a very important part of keeping said exploration alive.
4. Even though it wasn't the primary purpose of the trip, we've gotten so many rare pictures! Including my favorite "Hello, World" taken by commander Reid Wiseman:
It's the second photo EVER to have a fulll illuminated Earth hemisphere, the first being "Blue Marble". All other photos of the Earth have been spliced. Blue Marble was taken during the day and Hello, World was taken at night (the exposure has been lifted for clarity). It's my new favorite photo, it's so beautiful.
"only 90s kids remember-" wrong, if you're poor and/or rural enough, old tech and fashion doesn't just disappear when it stops being trendy. We had dial-up until 2012
And also not being American! A lot of technology arrived later for us than it did for USAmericans

there’s something so fucking ghoulish about using ai to dub banana fish specifically. it’s an explicitly queer story about abuse and war and sexual exploitation and the richest company on planet earth can’t even spare the money to properly adapt and dub it to give it the respect it deserves.
it’s not at all surprising obviously, but it is just so fucking depressing
EDIT: they took the ai english dub down! although the spanish dub may still be up (I’m not entirely sure, I can’t access it personally but that might just be bc i don’t live in north or south america)
regardless I wanted to share this small win at least. hopefully someday banana fish can get a real dub because it really deserves it

the internet is a place for reading wikipedia articles and watching every movie for free. social media is an invasive species. never forget this
One thing I think we have to thank Christopher Nolan for as a global culture is for almost singlehandedly changing the popular depiction of black holes in media to have the lens distortion/the wrap around light from the accretion disc on the other side (you know, the thing that is actually important about what a black hole is, the fact that it bends spacetime!).
Every time I see some random mobile game ad or disposable cgi stock image that depicts a black hole and it has the correct sort of warped halo effect I owe Mr. Nolan my life. It makes so much more sense than the totally flat black billiard ball planets I kept seeing in documentaries and textbooks as a kid. Like it's a really smoggy gas giant, or like the light just stops on a threshold and is otherwise unaffected.
The modern, accurate depiction builds so much better intuition!

it actually kills me when people talk about interstellar like it's some dumb pretentious movie for snobby faux-intellectuals who think they're so smart....like my brother in christ have you watched interstellar. it's about the indomitable human spirit and how love ties us together across time and space and how a person's will to reunite with their loved ones is stronger than any force in the universe like i'm sorry you didn't understand the wacky sci-fi stuff but can we please stop pretending any movie that has the tiniest bit of mindscrewery is "pretentious"
Comet 3I/ATLAS: A Visitor from Beyond the Solar System
The NASA-funded ATLAS (Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System) survey telescope in Rio Hurtado, Chile, first reported observations to the Minor Planet Center of comet 3I/ATLAS on July 1, 2025. Since the first report, observations made before the discovery were gathered from the archives of three different ATLAS telescopes around the world and Caltech’s Zwicky Transient Facility at the Palomar Observatory in San Diego County, California. These “pre-discovery” observations extend back to June 14.
Comet 3I/ATLAS is the third known object from outside our solar system to be discovered. Astronomers have categorized this object as interstellar because of the hyperbolic shape of its orbital path. (It does not follow a closed orbital path about the Sun.) When the orbit of 3I/ATLAS is traced into the past, the comet clearly originates from outside our solar system.
Comet 3I/ATLAS poses no threat to Earth and will remain far away. The closest it will approach our planet is about 1.8 astronomical units (about 170 million miles, or 270 million kilometers). 3I/ATLAS will reach its closest point to the Sun around Oct. 30, 2025, at a distance of about 1.4 au — just inside the orbit of Mars.
Comets are generally named for their discoverer(s), in this case the ATLAS survey team. The letter “I” is for “interstellar,” indicating that this object came from outside our solar system. It’s the third known interstellar object, hence the “3” in the name.
3I/ATLAS formed in another star system and was somehow ejected into interstellar space, which is the space between the stars. For millions or even billions of years, it has drifted until it recently arrived at our solar system. It has been approaching from the general direction of the constellation Sagittarius, which is where the central region of our galaxy, the Milky Way, is located. When discovered, 3I/ATLAS was about 410 million miles away from the Sun, within the orbit of Jupiter.
3I/ATLAS appeared to be travelling at 245,000 kilometres per hour, making it the fastest object ever detected in our Solar System.
It was also huge. Early estimates suggest the object could be up to 20 km in size. Finally, scientists believe it may even be older than our Sun.

what the fuck is up with calling people performative for reading a book that you don't personally think they are the type to be reading. stranger in the park reading poetry and you think they look like theyre too stupid to get it so you assume that (instead of you being an asshole for assuming the personality of a stranger) they must be performing their interest, for you, a person who they have not looked at and do not know exists. these people are being created in a lab to try and convince the rest of us that reading a book can only be done for the benefit of an audience and not just because reading is awesome. stop filming strangers for tiktok and join your local library's summer reading club and maybe you'll calm down
Sherlock Holmes is the funniest case of “doomed by the narrative” ever. Doomed by the narrative and destined to die young bc the creator hated him, and then the fans literally bullied him into un-dooming the narrative, writing about him for another thirty years, and giving the character a canonical happy ending where he retires to the countryside and keeps bees. Funniest shit ever.
