Yes!!! A particularly stressful situation causes the anterior cingulate cortex, a part of the brain which regulates emotion, to respond by overstimulating the vagus nerve, (which connects to the chest and abdomen) which causes pain and nausea!!! Also, during stressful experiences, your brain pumps out a cocktail medley of stress hormones like cortisol and epinephrine, which help you react in fight or flight situations; but when you’re not physically in distress, the overabundance of cortisol directs your brain to send too much blood to your muscles, including your chest, causing them to tense up, which would be ideal for sudden swift action like dodging a speeding car, but is just uncomfortable in purely emotionally endangering situations.
