1. Become depressed.

This can't be some once in awhile thing. It has to be everyday, forcing yourself out of bed, suffering through the day, the biggest relief being the fact that at the end of the day you can go back to sleep and not have to function or think for a couple hours.

2. Find some sort of artistic inspiration.

It doesn't matter where it's from. It can be an art style, a medium, a person, place, thing, etc. Anything to make you realized that hey, if you can learn to do something like that, you might be able to get out some of the negativity you're feeling.

3. Cut off any access activities and most of your social life for 6 months to a year.

You're going to need lots of practice in order to be great. Distractions won't get you there.

4. Pour your soul into whatever you are doing.

Take every bit of who you are, how you feel, what you think, throw it all up and infuse it into your work.

Date a nerd.

You don't even have to be a nerd. From my experience, they tend to be the most caring, thoughtful and romantic people out there.
