People on podcasts and so forth always talk about non-slasher 70s horror and go "Why was this considered scary?" Because The Wicker Man/The Stepford Wives/The Changeling is scary, I'm sorry you can't get a chill out of mounting tension.

It only took a day to happen, but I’m in love with you for always.
Ginger Rogers & Jimmy Stewart Vivacious Lady (1938), directed by George Stevens
love Mera
What’s a line from an Anne Rice book that haunts you? Like one that you turn over in your brain trying to interpret or expand upon or have a lot of questions about?
Like for example, I think a lot about the line that Armand and Daniel adopted a young dancer in NYC, supporting him through school. Who was this person?? How did they meet? Did they keep in touch? Did they go to his performances? How long did the checks keep coming (or are they still?) Did he ever come across the VC books and put 2 + 2 together?? I need more information!
Please share what lines haunt you!
Did anyone else catch the bees easter egg in Talamasca ep 2?
Maybe I’m a bit insane 🙈
(PANDORA/PL/MERRICK BOOK SPOILERS:
one of the founders of the Talamasca appeared to Pandora as a swarm of bees and David mentions in the novel “Merrick” that the Talamasca members have a phobia of bees, rooting “back to their origins.”)

We're dead. It showed me the torture it has in store for us. Our creature, it will be there waiting in the shadows in the shape of our fears until it has seen us to our deaths.
Gothic (1986) dir. Ken Russell
genuinely so sick and twisted that there were (correct me if I'm wrong) no interactions between Arthur and Orm while Orm was living with Erin and Tommy in Louisiana. Particularly while Arthur was properly king. Orm gets the normal, happy life on the surface "free" from duty and destiny and Arthur has the throne he never wanted? A good writer could do something with that!!
Chekhov, holding a smoking pistol in act 1: I-I'm sorry this... this never happens I- it usually last much longer than this
read older comics and you too can be upset that modern comics have completely forgotten about important friendships or relationships between characters
oh death of a prince

One thing that can get overlooked in discussions of Arthur and Mera's relationship in pre and post-crisis is how self-absorbed and single minded he can be. This can show itself in the way he dismisses Mera's requests and concerns when he has his attention caught by other things, such as stopping Orm as seen in Aquaman (1985), or his absence during the Death of a Prince storyline. He also achnolwedges that he knew Mera was lonely even during the good years, which was why Arthur Jr. was so important as he gave her something to focus on.
this obviously results in far reaching impacts on their relationship and Mera’s mental health. Mera is regularly the only person staying and handling the fallout of Arthur’s actions or managing Atlantis’ day to day activities. There is a reason that even with all of the issues that hang over Mera’s head, you can often see the citizens of Atlantis demonstrate loyalty to her above him.
Despite how long Mera and Arthur have been established (they first married in 1963!), their entire relationship has been tumultuous. Mainly, this is due to factors outside of their control. Mera’s writing has had some very poor periods, and even ignoring the writer’s or editor’s role in this, in universe she has suffered through semi-regular instances of mental and physical manipulation.

Yes!! I read death of a prince AFTER reading McLaughlin and David’s runs which are both very much Arthur’s perspective of the events surrounding the death of their son and his problems with Mera. So it was crazy to go back and see the original events in which it makes it clear how his issues of avoidance/being a poor partner were very much the thing that lead to the state of his family. And he carries so much guilt over it even as he refuses to deal with it in any meaningful way.
