i have a lot of thoughts but one of them is how in a major way even though she was still alive for the first couple years he was at xavier's jean grey Majorly Haunts The Narrative for quentin. everyoneee particularly the older men in charge of quentin he's always trying to impress/provoke/save/escape from is hung up on her, from morrison nxm charles to wolverine (wolverine) to scott summers in his current adjectiveless x-men! and so is the phoenix force, even though SHE'S not his headmaster or parole officer or anything. so in a way i think he feels like he can't measure up, or doesn't even know where to begin trying-- his storylines are so often about kind of messy unsuccessful teenage attempts at independence, self-determination, and getting clobbered with the Phoenix's Second Choice* stick is kind of just ANOTHER getting flagged with a powerful mutation at a young age. like, how do you even grow up with that looming over your future? (and we see with future!phoenix!quentin how he rejects it!)

so the phoenix is both good and bad to his ego, i think. it's an important part of his character and narrative. it's another brick in the wall of Quentin Quire's Nebulous But Clearly Something Gender/Sexuality Situation. idk what to say about it other than i think its neat!

these r such good juicy questions tysm!!! as for favorite quentin panel oooh it's so hard to pick i'll do a compilation later... as for favorite artist, i honestly think there's different stuff i like for all of them! but my favorites are quitely's Extremely Tense Original Flavor Quentin is endearingly pathetic (as in evoking of pathos but also frankly the other kind) and palpably textured. bachalo watxm quentin is sooo cute and pointy, i love bachalo's JGS stuff in general i feel like it's really expressive and cuties and goes great with the narrative tone. boschi alpha & omega quentin is REALLY angular and angsty and off-putting which i love also. i thoroughly reject blue-eyed quentin No He Doesn't Have Those.

except for greg land quentin ALL MY HOMIES HATE GREG QUENTIN. like who IS that, if he's brunette he shouldn't have the mohawk and he CERTAINLY shouldn't be buff.

anyway uhh i havent read very many stories yet since i am new around these parts ^u^ and my absolute favorites are like, okay well you guys know about sabretooth war and a&o. BUT

the weird battleworld e for extinction mini from 2015 is a super fun heartfelt tribute to that era of morrison NXM

Marvel Holiday Special 2011 #1 has a b story where it's literally just logan makes some of the jgs kids play hockey to teach them some kind of lesson and im ngl i love it

Is it so hard for art consistency across runs of the same era? This is not what Quentin's hair looks like rn, so why is it being drawn this way?

Ooo, villain arc for Ben?? Can't assume it was an accident that he wasn't around anymore come the Age of Revelation. I think it'd be cool to see him turn

It was nice seeing him play against Ben, a character we haven't gotten to see much of yet, so we got to learn more about both of them. And Ben is kinda a rough guy! He'll fit right in with this team lol.

I'm excited to see the lead in to DNX and Quentin's promoted mind battle with ol' Cassie. There's been build up to their clash with QQ going through two (three?) auotmated Black Bug Rooms, but how will he do against her full attention is real time? What mental anguish will she throw at him and what will he throw back to show how he's grown? I can't wait!

Great to see Ben Liu get his chance to shine. This issue really got me to care about the character. I also still really like the coloring for this mindscape thing, it's really pleasing to me
