FLORENCE PUGH @ DOOMSDAY
How has your character changed since audiences last saw them? I think Yelena's changed massively since we last saw her because, for probably the first time in her life, she knows she actually has people she can rely on. That's completely new for her. She's spent so long believing she had to survive everything on her own, and after Thunderbolts, she's realised she's found this very unexpected family. She's still sarcastic and she'll absolutely use humour to deflect, because that's justwho she is, but I think there's a little more confidence underneath it now. She doesn't have to carry everything by herself anymore, and that's quite a lovely place to meet her.
Did you learn any new skills or training during filming? There's always something new physically, whether it's stunt work or fight choreography, and I absolutely love throwing myself into that. Every film asks something different of you, and it's always exciting to see what your body can actually do after weeks of training. We definitely pushed things a little further this time, which was really fun. But I can’t say much more without giving it away!
If your character had to team up with someone unexpected in the MCU, who would you choose and why? I'd love to see her paired with Loki. I think she'd be completely unimpressed by all thetheatrics, and he'd probably find that incredibly annoying. Their conversations would beabsolute chaos, but underneath all of that, I think they'd secretly respect each other.
What's your favourite memory working with this ensemble cast? Honestly, it was the moments between takes. When you've got that many brilliant actors together, you're constantly laughing. The scale of these films is enormous, but it's the silly conversations, the shared meals, and everyone trying to make each other laugh that you end up remembering the most. And getting to work with so many new people, it was just a dream.
Was there a prop or costume from set that you wished you could take home? I always want Yelena's boots. They're ridiculously practical, they make you feel about two feet taller, and they instantly change the way you walk. The costume just helps you step into her immediately, so I'd happily have taken the boots home.
What song would be your character'stheme song for this film? I'd probably say Heads Will Roll by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It's chaotic, confident, and has this slightly unhinged energy that feels very Yelena. She walks into every situation looking completely in control, even if everything around her is falling apart.
Using only one word, how would you describe Doomsday? Unpredictable.
