How can I write a creepy character, or a character with a creepy unsettling vibe?

Hi Dear!! okay so the biggest thing with creepy characters is that the scariest ones are never obviously scary. the unsettling vibe comes from something being just slightly off, not from them being overtly threatening. think about the way they notice things they shouldn’t, remember details no one else would bother to remember, or stay calm in moments where any normal person would react.

the trick is to write them almost normally and then put one thing wrong. maybe they’re warm and friendly but they never blink at the right moments. maybe they say exactly the right thing but a few seconds too late, like they had to calculate it. maybe other characters can’t quite explain why they feel uncomfortable around them, they just do. that gap between “nothing is technically wrong” and “something is very wrong” is where the creep factor lives.

Your characters are allowed to be bad people. Your story is allowed to have no moral lesson.yyour ending is allowed to be sad. The villain can win. The good person can do something unforgivable. The lovers can destroy each other. You are allowed to write the thing that no one asked for and everything that everyone told you doesn’t work and you are allowed to not explain yourself.

“Tell him we give him water in containers that won't kill him. Lots lots lots of water on Erid for Grace to drink.”

“No. Grace say he want water on ground. Also want it with excess sodium chloride compound so it will be unhealthy for drink.”

“Grace want this liquid for celebration.”

“Of course.” They scan it. “You have wrong liquid. This contain compounds which are poisonous for humans.”

“Yes yes yes. Grace say humans like feeling of being slightly poisoned.”
