I love Ancestry (and other genealogical services), not because I'd ever use it, (I'm not paying for someone else to study my genealogy and take the fun away from me) but because it gives us an amazing glimpse into our own part in history. Yeah, you might find out that your great uncle was a first generation Neo-Nazi, but knowing that is still infinitely more valuable than not knowing.
My great-grandfather was by most accounts a horrible person, but I still feel at ease knowing that conclusively rather than being forced to speculate about whether I'm the only weirdo in my family.
