I will not perform femininity for your comfort. I will not cook because I must. I will cook if I want to. And if you’re hungry, there’s a stove. Use it.

If I raise children, I will not do it alone. If I work, I will not justify my ambition. If I rest, I will not carry guilt on my shoulders like a second saree.

I will not be the emotional labor machine for a family that doesn’t see me. I will not keep giving love into a void, waiting for crumbs of appreciation. I will not water dead plants in the name of tradition.

I will cry. Loudly. I will rage. Beautifully. I will demand. Boldly. And if that makes me “too much,” then too much is exactly what I’ll be.

I saw him first, the flame of the fire,
