you cannot break us

Tilden winced at bit at the mention of a garden-wrecking dog. He was so glad he was able to train Sky to not destroy gardens, even if it was the only thing that got through to the dog. He was about to ask Fatima more about how Bermuda was but at the sight of her fallen expression, he thought he better not.

“Hah, what don’t I do would be a better question! Let’s see… Well I get a lot of time to work on my garden so it’s mostly that. My family attempts to look after it during semester but they just don’t do it right, y’know? I mean they keep it alive but they just can’t- what’s the word… polish it up?” A small chuckle escapes him. “But other than that, it’s parties and hanging out with friends. You gotta enjoy the holidays to the extreme after all!” He gave Fatima a wide grin. “So what kinda stuff do you usually do? Got any special plans for the next holidays?”

Fatima had zero interest in training the husky to be any less destructive than he already was. Honestly, he was more entertaining like this, and the lazy Gryffindor - Seeker or not - would be hard pressed to be motivated to do anything about canine misbehaviour.

She huffed, a little envious - the Shafiq’s were notoriously asocial, showing up to one party per break, and that was assuming they weren’t in India or hosting their own event at the time - but grinned back at him nonetheless. Even the nearest town to her home was too far to be able to walk there and explore. “For the winter break? I think we’re supposed to be going to Karnataka - ah, that’s India, it’s where our family is from - to visit my ammas family. Normally I’d be at home, though. Either on the beach or in my room, or looking for secrets, or maybe hanging around the music room,” even though she lacked any musical talent. She could dance, though, her ajji and mum had ensured that. 

He poked his tongue out at her vaguely threatening remark. “Yeah, he seems much happier living outside of the castle but he still manages to make a huge mess… Well at least they’re not as bad as last semesters,” he rolled his eyes and laughed as he walked alongside Fatima. He easily recalled the time he came back to a totally destroyed dormitory room after he left Sky alone for the day. “So I think he’s improving.”

Fatima just grinned at him and his facial expressions. “I bet Bermuda would adore Sky. She just loves wrecking the garden.” She fell quiet for a moment, lost in thought. But that wasn’t what she wanted right now, was it? The purpose of a distraction was to get out of her head, not deeper in it. “What do you do every summer, Tilden?”
