This represents a fundamental misunderstanding of Mario's central plot structure. Mario always gets his ass beat in his initial encounter with an outside context problem, then spends the bulk of the game going around gathering allies and kicking the legs out from under the outside context problem's support structure.

This sort of thing clearly falls into another protagonist's idiom, and Mario is a union man – he's not going to scab on Kirby. Perish the thought!

In just the past two months, Sony has:

Said the PS6 will be more than $1000 at launch

Announced the end of all physical PS game releases

While simultaneously announcing the end of two of their console game stores — ensuring multiple games will die forever

Declared that they are wholly dedicated to (A) leveraging A.I. when making games and (B) creating live-service games above all other game types

Announced that if you bought any movies through their PlayStation Store, over 550 of them will soon be deleted from all users' libraries — with no restitution offered of any kind

Gamers, it is time — to paraphrase Robert Vann — to turn Sony's picture to the wall. Any one of these insults would be bad, and taken alone? Maybe it could be swallowed. But this is an ongoing campaign of disdain towards customers, with each declaration worse than the last.

PlayStation does not deserve your patronage any longer. The PS6 must fail. Leave them behind.

Don't forget the fact that despite the fact that they claimed to be pushing for live service games, they cut service for Destiny 2 (aka a live service game that's been ongoing for years) while they were 80% of the way through development into a new expansion (at the start of a new storyline with a minimum of 5 years of planned new content btw), then did not tell the developers until right before they made the announcement public. This lead to pretty much the entire Destiny 2 team being laid off. Sony is a piece of shit.

Very sorry for being so negative about Nintendo, specifically their in-house exclusives for the Switch 2. I just can’t get behind how overpriced everything on the Switch 2 is, and the fact that both Ocarina of Time and Star Fox 64 are getting big, “cinematic” remakes right around the same time those franchises get big Hollywood movies makes them feel more like adverts than anything else.

But! This is a Smash Bros blog, not just a Nintendo blog. Let’s stay positive and look at what some of the other franchises in Smash are doing right now.

Pokémon Champions came out on Switch back in April and was recently ported to mobile earlier this month. I haven’t picked it up myself yet but it seems to be TPC’s long awaited response to Pokémon Showdown with more polish, balance, and a much healthier community (probably). All my friends love it so far. I’ve heard there is some monetization but it doesn’t seem to be super intrusive.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book came out last month and from what I can tell flew completely under the radar. Probably the biggest thing of note about it is that it’s a Switch 2 exclusive for $60! You love to see it.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave looks incredible; of all the Switch 2 games we know about so far, this is the one I’d most likely buy the console for. I can’t believe I lived to see the day they added handguns to Fire Emblem. Smash fans would do well to familiarize themselves with this game for when they inevitably add a character from it to the next Smash game.

IDW Sonic is getting good again

Mega Man: Dual Override got announced back at the Game Awards, and while I don’t think we’ve seen anything new about the game since then (aside from a design contest they thankfully explicitly banned generative AI for), what little gameplay we’ve seen of it so far looks solid, and I love that we’re seeing a more mechanical side to Mega Man with that end shot in the trailer. Mega Man Star Force also recently got a Legacy Collection rerelease.

That Street Fighter movie coming out later this year looks so fucking gooooooood

We’re getting a new Castlevania game! Belmont’s Curse is slated to come out this October. Visually the game reminds me a lot of Hades II. The protagonist is Trevor’s daughter, so I’m sure there will be a lot of moments catered towards fans of the Netflix series (also we haven’t seen him yet but I would be very surprised if Alucard doesn’t show up). You guys have to promise to actually buy this one and stop complaining about Konami only ever making pachinko machines.

Persona 6 finally got formally announced. We know literally nothing about it (outside of leaks), but yay it’s real! DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE PERSONA 4 REMAKE JUST GET GOLDEN

Uhhh I guess we got a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 but I don’t know enough about Kingdom Hearts to say if it looks good or not.

Friendly reminder that it’s WAY cheaper to buy a 3DS (or 2DS) and Ocarina of Time 3D than it is to buy a Switch 2 alone, let alone paying extra for games or any online features.

And like I’m sorry, I love Ocarina of Time, but is a AAA version of it with Graphics™ and Voice Acting™ for probably $80 really worth it? Is it really worth it to drop close to a grand on a new console just to play a dolled up version of an N64 game (or, god forbid, they take the FF7 route and bloat the fuck out of it for padding) that already got a perfectly fine remake ten years ago? This is the live action Moana of video games and I wish I was joking.
