Portland Timbers, we adore you.

The 215th day of 2011.
“‘Coming here with the atmosphere with the fans and the atmosphere in the stadium, this is what you want to play in front of,’ midfielder David Beckham said. ‘You want to play in front of fans like this - passionate about the game and their own team.’”

John Spencer drinks...
...Bud Light with Lime
(from today's q&a with john spencer at the season ticket holder's appreciation event)
Let 'Em See Ya Sweat
Spencer, the Timbers' head coach, immediately stands out, and not because he's planted in one place screaming his face off—which is what you'd expect from the fiery Scottish coach of a team coming off a pair of losses. No, instead, the 5'6" former English Premier and Major League Soccer star is running from sideline to sideline, clad in a bright yellow mesh pinny, manning the edges of the action and repeatedly booting the ball back into the fracas.
Nice article on John Spencer, The Portland Mercury 6/16/10
Hate for a nice former Timber to go through an OG, love that a former Timber is still a Timber.
On draw with Timbers: "Portland deserved to win, every time they were kicking the ball forward it seemed like they were going to score. I don't think Portland deserved to draw the game, and I didn't think we deserved to draw the game either. They deserved to win." On atmosphere at JELD-WEN Field: "I've played in a lot of stadiums before. It was a great atmosphere playing at Barcelona, playing at Arsenal, playing some big games in the World Cup, but I have to say the fans are amazing. Credit to them, they are amazing – they didn't stop singing, they were there an hour before the game outside singing. Wow. Amazing."
Thierry Henry, post-game 6/19/11
Say what you will about handballs, one of the biggest stars in the world only has the classiest of remarks for our team and fans. Not bad, Portland.

I do remember it quite vividly. It was at Stamford Bridge and I think it was myself and Kasey on the field with the referee, and behind us right along the halfway line there were maybe 25 horses stopping the Chelsea fans and the Millwall fans from going into a riot. So as soon as I put the ball down I took three steps back, ran as quick as I can, hit the shot, it gets saved and I turned and ran as fast as I could up the tunnel. That's probably what I remember more about the penalty kick more than anything.
John Spencer recounting his time with Chelsea and run-in with then Millwall keeper Keller.
Great audience, great atmosphere, I can see how a lot of teams have problems when they have to play here. The enthusiastic crowd can always be a very difficult thing for the opponent.
