A lot of tcomc adaptations I've seen have ended the story by having Edmond get his revenge and then happily reunite with MercΓ©dΓ©s and leave the story like that, and here's why that does NOT fly with me.
The Count of Monte Cristo is NOT a love story about Edmond and MercΓ©dΓ©s, though it starts that way. A lot of adaptations tend to do this, as in zero in on the romance (and leave HaydΓ©e out if the plot, wtf???) But the romance, although an accessory of the tragedy, is NOT central to the tragedy! Mondego, Danglars, Caderousse, and Villefort didn't JUST steal Edmond away from MercΓ©dΓ©s, they also a) left his father to starve to death, b) took advantage of MercΓ©dΓ©s' misery to marry her when she had no one left, c) abandoned Edmond to suffer in prison presumably for the rest of his life, and d) did all of that other insane shit that didn't affect Edmond personally.
But the point of the original ending is that there is too much time lost between Edmond and MercΓ©dΓ©s, too much loneliness between them, and they have changed too much apart from each other for things to go back to how they were. Although MercΓ©dΓ©s can see past the Counts callousness to find his old humanity, Edmond HAS changed, he's not the same bright-eyed young man who had so much in life to do. MercΓ©dΓ©s isn't the same untroubled, poor woman Edmond fell for, and that's okay! They still love each other, though they have different paths in life and different responsibilities! It just seems, maybe cheap is the right word, to give Edmond the traditional "happy ending" by having him "get the girl back" in the end, as if that were the point of his efforts. They've earned their peace!
i love how a big part of elizabeth bennetβs character is that she is obviously very smart, she is very observant, but she can easily be led astray by her preconceived notions, by things that she already has convinced herself of believing. and this is most obvious by her not seeing mr. darcyβs proposal coming at all, because girl that man was openly flirting with her. i donβt think this is shown a lot in the movie or the tv series, but he keeps teasing her, answering her witty remarks with a smile, the whole βi am not afraid of youβ thing. like, charlotte saw it coming, colonel fitzwilliam definitely saw it coming, the gardiners knew as soon as they saw them together later in the book, mr darcy was not as subtle as he thought he was being
seriously, god bless you jane austen for giving us this romance of two fucking idiots constantly misunderstanding each otherβs actions and intentions. god bless you for giving us mr βaha so like what do you think of your friendβs marriage? you wouldnβt mind living away from your family when you marry right? oh, no reason, no reason, just a random thought. and what do you think of rosings, you know if hypothetically you were ever a guest there, no, no reason heheβ, and miss βi wonder why i keep coming across mr darcy during my walks, i even made sure to tell him that this is where i usually take my walks so he can avoid me but we are still??? running into each other???? and he keeps asking me all these strange questions too, what a weirdoβ
just, two idiots that were made for each other
I love them so so much
I havenβt posted much about it on this blog because I have so few followers here compared to main and other side blogs, but genuinely, if you are a fan of Avatar, you need to be doing everything you can to support and liberate palestine and end this genocide. ATLA is about a fucking genocide and the devastating impacts of colonialism and a brutal military occupation. Well, weβre witnessing a genocide and the devastating impacts of colonialism and a brutal military occupation right now. If you are a fan of ATLA or LOK you fucking need to be talking about palestine and Palestinian liberation. You need to be calling your elected officials, going to protests, talking to people in real life, resharing and uplifting Palestinian voices, boycotting Israeli products, reading and educating yourself on whatβs going on and the history behind it, and doing everything you can to stop this genocide.
We all need to be talking about palestine. Silence and βneutralityβ and inaction is complicity.

the best parts of taskmaster are hands down
people getting secret tasks or told to sabotage their team
when the one of the hosts says something really laden with a theme that hints at the upcoming task and you can see the contestants get angry because they know what task its referring to
when one of the hosts says something really laden with specific references to rules or parts of the tasks and one contestant starts to freak out because they know its directed at them
after someone does really well on a task and one of the hosts focuses a little too long on one specific aspect and everyone knows there's a tiny technicality about to be dropped and the person's like "no, don't take it away from me"
someone finding a loophole or secret in a task and the other contestants in studio losing their minds

who do you think they are to each other? / it took me twelve years to find my friend / he was just this kid in my head for such a long time, and I think I just missed him / you dream in a language I canβt understand / you make my life so much bigger, and I just wonder if I do the same for you / this is where I ended up. this is where Iβm supposed to be / I just wanted to see you one more time / I didnβt know liking your husband would hurt this much / maybe we were a bird and the branch it decided to rest on one day / who you are is someone who leaves / to arthur, you are someone who stays / if this is already a past life, who do you think we are to each other in the next?
This is not a natural disaster. This was not inevitable. They didn't grow up like this. It was inflicted on them by the vilest sadists on earth.
One of the things that pisses me off most about this genocide and overall occupation is how many people say it's so complicated and there's so much nuance and there isn't one easy solution. This is one of the simplest things I have ever seen. Zionists invaded palestine in 1947-48. They have occupied it for 76 years while taking more and more land. They kidnap and torture and massacre Palestinians day in day out for those 76 years. They control every aspect of Palestinian life, including their water and medical care. And now they are committing another genocide against them. Where is the complication? What is hard to understand? "Well, Jewish people need a place where they won't be discriminated against" I absolutely agree. So make every country in the world safe for Jewish people. Fight against anti Semitism across the world. Don't commit a genocide and set up an ethnostate.
I still see people defending the IOF's bombing of hospitals, schools, and homes in Palestine by saying, "there are tunnels underneath them that Hamas uses" or "Hamas uses the people as human shields," so I thought I'd try to share something with them.
This is the building in which Saleh al-Arouri, the founding commander of the Al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas, was assassinated by Israeli forces on January 2, 2024, along with six (6) other Hamas members, adding up to seven (7) deaths.
Love them or hate them, that's not my point right now. My point is: look at the building.
Do you notice how it's still standing?
They targeted a single apartment flat, and the whole building is still standing. There are other apartment flats in the same building that look relatively untouched. The building next to it looks fine.
Additionally, only seven (7) people were killed in this strike, all of which were announced by Hamas as its members.
This is the kind of technology at the Israeli forces' disposal. And yet, when they bomb Palestinian schools and hospitals with the pretense of targeting Hamas soldiers, hundreds die and the entire building goes down, if not several others.
Maybe the IOF can be precise when they want to be.
But maybe, when it comes to Palestine, they don't want to be precise.
There's a super famous singing festival in italy that airs for a week every year. This year, one of the singers, Ghali, did some very remarkable things on that stage. Ghali was born in Italy from Tunisian parents, his career has been going on for a while, but this was his first time on that stage.
He made a song where he references Palestine where he sings: "how can you say everything is fine down here, where in order to trace borders with imaginary lines you bomb an hospital, for a piece of land or for a piece of bread there is no peace" . He also did a medley, singing also in arabic for the first time in the history of the festival.
Last night, during the final, he ended his performance asking to "stop the genocide!" I don't have to tell you that there's absolutely nothing pro-Palestine on italian media... and he used the biggest stage he could use to say that.
Today on a tv programme he was accused by the Isra*li ambassador of spreading hate and violence, to which he replied with those words in the following video (credits to the person who translated it here):
The italian TV broadcaster quickly posted a press release to distance themselves from this speech and to reiterate their whole support to Isr*el lol Towards the end of this tv programme, a few hours after Ghali said what you can hear in this video, they read the press release out loud. This is how Isra*li propaganda works everywhere, thanks to the complicity of our governments.
Just want to post about him because he really risked it all and I appreciate him incredibly for everything he did...if only everyone could do the same. And fuck italy and its fascist government.

Okay, it really bothers me how many people, especially on TikTok, are willing to forget how bad Snow really is just because he's hot. I mean, I'm not one to be above Tom Blyth's "hotness", but guys, really? Have you learned nothing at all from what you just watched?! Are you that unable to understand the film's problematic?
I try not to judge because I know sometimes people just want to be silly and give themselves a break from the heaviness of it all, but ffs, stop romanticizing creepiness and abusive behavior. TBOSAS is NOT a dark romance, Snow is NOT hot, he's a fascist-minded, not-so-borderline misogynistic, completely narcissistic villain from the beginning. He may have loved Lucy Gray or not, but it doesn't really matter as much as how he did it, how he treated her - how he (maybe) killed her (y'all know that, if she died, it was a femicide, right? At the very least, it was an attempt).
And I hate when people say "It's not that deep, he's fictional, I'd never do that irl" because that may be true for you but pay attention to the content you're spreading, the message you're getting across to people more vulnerable than you, in a position of doubt about what's really acceptable or not. Children, teenagers who think they have enough judgment when they don't, women in abusive relationships trying to normalize what they're suffering, young people being brainwashed, or trained, or raised to be prejudiced, violent, and bigoted... they're all exposed to what you're posting and if collective well-being still doesn't sway you...
Noah Schnapp.
That's it. There's your real-world version of Coriolanus Snow age 17. A young man, who supports genocide, who supports a massacre of children because he thinks his people are the rightful owners of the place they are actually colonizing. Still think he's so hot?
He's not.
He's just another fascist.
And what breaks my heart the most is that there are so many characters in THG and even TBOSAS who are so pretty, even "hot" and are still kind and, at the very least, VICTIMS of that society. Case in point, obviously, Peeta, Finnick, and even Haymitch, if you prefer a dilf. But also, Treech and Reaper, both of them victims of the Capital, and kind in the case of Reaper, I'm not sure about Treech, but he's still just a scared boy trying to go back home. And they're both so beautiful (and hot, and both actors are of age, I checked lol) and should be a lot more crushed on instead of Snow. Hell, even Sejanus is hotter than Snow just because he's not a fascist.
That's how low you have to go to find Snow actually hot. And again, I get that Tom Blyth is hot, but learn to trace a limit. It's not cool, nor funny, to throw away every message and cautionary warning this story ever gives you just because the actor playing the villain is hot, it's actually you just proving the whole story's point: we can ignore anything for the show.
I have three modes of reading
Dont read
Read a 500 page book in a day
Read only fanfiction until my eyeballs drop out of my skull from exhaustion
