inspired by all the discussions of taylor induction ceremony speech (which beautiful btw). i keep thinking about her being able to keep a really strong fanbase for years (and which is actively increasing) and what always has been different about it; specifically when you see new artists not being able to do the same or wanting to for various reasons. taylor meeting audience members after her shows (and not doing paid meet and greets) + doing those christmas events i.e., sending out gifts even at the height of her career where artists neccesarily do not have to invest so much emotionally, secret sessions, parceling out clothes and a note with it to people just cause she saw someone complimenting her coat, interacting with listeners through various platforms including tumblr, having hospital visits (and the list does go on and on), is actually interesting in the sense alot of upcoming artists. i have observed they do this initally to grow and strengthen their fanbase but are almost never consistent with it. and obviously there has to be said something about the risks of parasocial relationships and everything, but this access in ways must be so exhausting and you are giving so much of yourself. talent is neccessary and does take you far but hardwork and understanding emotional connection especially with the kind of art taylor swift makes is also important. (and obviously at one point you do have to take a step back due to emotional and physical security but she did give alot even after her forming career years and it is and should be different now).
