Morgana turned against Gwen first, though, and Gwen was never there for the persecution of magic users. Her own father was unjustly executed for magic! Not to mention it would have been hard for Gwen to stand up for Morgana's cause after she set her up and tried to have her burned at the stake. Their friendship broke down because Morgana treated her horribly after she returned and tried to have her killed. I get dropping friends because their values go wildly against your own, but the reason Gwen sided with Morgana's enemies is because Morgana pushed her there. She didn't give Gwen a chance or a choice and I hate so much what the writers did to their relationship and characters.
