Everyday May: A Very Casual Fallen Hero Fandom Event
Some fun chatting with @thecryptidenthusiast and @sunsetno4 about the everyday citizens in Los Diablos spiraled into us making a fun little Challenge/Event thingy.
All creative approaches are welcomeâ there will be an AO3 collection made for folks who want to share on there, and the tag #fhr everyday may for here on tumblr. Any content, just tag/rate things appropriately for either location, you know the drill.
Overview: It's an average Thursday in Los Diablos. No catastrophes, none that would be particularly newsworthy at least. Still, LD isn't exactly an average city, and some days can make that very clear.
Aka: Do something creative around an "average day" for an average civilian in the Free Western Territories.
Guidelines: Characters should have no personal involvement in heroism or villainy and only minor/ "gimmick" boosts or aesthetic/quality of life mods. [boosts: delta or gamma only. mods: civilian/medical/aesthetic (types f, e, and d) only] Neighbor is a vigilante? Work the bar at Joes? Insurance claims adjuster who is somehow always called in when Charge wrecks a car? All awesome! Crimefighter? Bankrobber? Not a fit for this event/challenge.

I kinda wanna make another one that's more conspiracy board-y or one that's way more in-depth too so if you see me make multiple Sidestep themes ignore that !! but i was thinking of making smth that also has stats like puppet ind. gates opened etc that could also be a reference "board" for your sidestep... i could also make smth w/ neocities and have it be more than just a static page but that's way too much effort methinks

fontseeker may i humbly ask for you to check what fonts are used for the fallen hero interactive fiction series titles? (see below for the best versions of each of the games' fonts i could find off steamdb) i suspect that the one used for revelations is an all caps impact bold, but the other ones I'm not sure. thank you very much for all your work running the blog, i love learning about new fonts on here! <333

So I'm Thinking of Making a Public Fallen Hero Discord Server

I want to make a Discord serverâunrelated to the Patreonâwhere people can hang out. This has been on my mind for the past month or so.
While Tumblr is a great place to share your work with others-- currently, it's a place that only works well with finished art, fics much less, and not at all with discussion. I think it would be fun to have a place for friendly strangers.
However, it wouldn't be right to make this post without remembering our past and present.
Fans got hurt in the last public Discord server (TL,DR: bigotry). I wasn't there, but after hearing from others, I know that the pain is real. Even today, the lack of awareness of well-meaning fansâincluding myselfâcan hurt others too. I can't forget to mention that Discord and the Internet in general has gotten more restrictive (relevant legislation here: Link 1 Link 2 Link 3). The outside world persists even if we are online.
If there's enough interest in making another community space, then should be done with care. I can't ignore the wounds we carry because of it, but I still think connection is important.
Is anyone interested in this server? Tell me what you think, whether it's good, or ugly, or even mean. I can take it! Don't try to be well-spoken if it's too hardâ just tell me how you feel. For those who are unfamiliar with me personally, I need to know what you think the most. The replies to this post are open. My DMs and asks are open too.

If there's enough interest I'll run the server for three months to see if it works. If there's still interest at the end of those three months, and if the idea is still executable given what resources we have/conditions we're in, I'll take stock of what could be done better and go from there. The server will only exist as long as it needs to be.
Who's going to benefit from this?
I feel that there is a need for friendly fans to come together. I mentioned strangers specifically, because I know in my experience, it feels a little hard to reach others directly on Tumblr. When I post on Tumblr I feel like I'm posting for an audience rather than an extended group of friends. When I see someone else's post I feel like an audience member than an equal. I wanted to make this server to address that.
At the same time, Discord and other messaging sites aren't for everyone. That's why I want to make it possible to benefit from this server without having to be a memberâ something that I will talk about later in this post.
Why not focus on Tumblr?
I believe that no amount of friendly Tumblr PSAs could impact people's behavior in a meaningful way. Unless the website itself changes its function so that back-and-forth communication is easy, nothing is going to change.
The issue of DiscordâŚ
Discord is easy, feature-rich, and most people on Tumblr already have a Discord account. However, it would be wrong if I were to ask fellow fans to give up their data to use it. Discord has pushed back the global age-verification until the later half of this year which gives us some time. Should there be a need to move away from Discord, I would be using Stoat (or a similar open-source client)â and bridge the current Discord server onto the other platform.
My dream is to run the community on a self-hosted server using an open-source alternative, free from any corporate provider, but this'll probably remain a dream. I have no technical know-how nor the money to do it myself.
How will this be moderated?
It will be hard, and it will be uncomfortable at times, but we must commit ourselves to challenging bigotry. Anyone who is outwardly bigoted gets the boot. It's a privilege to be in an online community space, not a right. But anyone who is well-meaning can do harm too.
This server must be committed the same way. Not just staff or by written rules, but by everyone. Because of how we're raised and the world we live in, thinking and doing something that is racist/transphobic/anti-Semitic/bigoted is unavoidable. But we can't deny our agency. We can always think better, do better, and try harder, because we are always able to make a choice.
For now, the server will be taken care of by me and probably two other fans that I choose. I'll take care not to choose others because they're my friends, or because they have influence on Tumblr, but because I think they are capable. Staff will have the choice to continue their role or to step down every three months or so. Later onâif this server would still be a thingâI hope to include the community in this selection process, because this is something that requires a lot of trust.
Lastly, I would also like to emphasize personal responsibility. I'd like the server to have a safety guide such as this one (which covers ideas like discomfort vs. harm, what is danger, and what is safety).
What fun things can we do?
Aside from meeting new people, I think it would be great to host events. However, time is precious! I don't want fans in the community to invest a lot of time to have fun.
And as a policy, I would like it if events on the server will also be open and accessible to people on Tumblr. Most likely, it would be best if I started a blog specifically for this server to act as a way to keep communication open.
I have a few ideas: movie nights, voice chats, and fun question and answer activities (and special thanks to Cigs for running this Tumblr-wide one, its great!). But I also want to focus on direct collaboration. I've been thinking about a Wiki event, where people contribute some way to the FHR Wiki; a "fic" club where we read a work of fan-fiction and talk about it (while returning our energy back to the fic author); or a simple compliment train with other fans. Event running shouldn't be limited to server staff either. Ideally I want everyone to have the ability to!
Closing thoughts
Though I have a vision for a community space, the real test is action. If this idea doesn't have an execution, or it has a failed execution, then I hope this doesn't stop anyone else for trying. Being in this world is hard and scary and dangerous, but to live without connection can be very painful.
I'm writing this pitch from the bottom of my heart. At the very least, I hope this post can serve as a gentle reminder to love, and to love as much as we can, despite all our hurts and flaws.
