I was 19 years old. I had crazy hair and piercings. I was in active addiction and struggled with an eating disorder. I was in and out of treatment centers because I couldn’t stay sober. I tried to kill myself. I couldn’t keep a job and I had to drop out of school. I had no friends and every relationship ended because of the chaos I brought into other peoples lives. I never thought I was going to be able to be independent because of my mental illnesses.

Now I’m 30 years old. I just got married a month ago. I work full time for the fucking school district. I went back to college. I am completely stable. I’ve been sober for almost 8 years. I have an actual car and an actual apartment. I took all my piercings out and I like lame things now and wear cardigans to go teach elementary schoolers. I would hate myself for that ten years ago, but that’s me now.
