“Waivers?” he repeated with an amused shake of his head. “No, nothing like that. The Air Acolytes don't have forms or contracts. Just a willingness to learn, help one another, and keep an open mind.” His gray eyes sparkled with humor. “Though if we did have waivers, the first line would probably say, 'Air Temple Island is not responsible for unexpected enlightenment, accidental self-discovery, or sudden urges to meditate at.'”

The teasing faded into a warmer smile as he looked at her. He could hear the sincerity beneath her joke, and the excitement and uncertainty of someone stepping into a completely new chapter of her life.

“I think I understand what you mean about wanting something beyond stone walls,” Aang said, his gaze wandering briefly to the open sky stretching across the harbor. “The Air Nomads believe the world is meant to be experienced. We travel because every person, every culture, every corner of the world has something to teach us. Freedom isn’t just about going wherever you want. It’s about keeping your heart open to change.” His attention returned to Opal, his expression encouraging.

“And from what you've told me, it sounds like you're already embracing that lesson.” He spread his arms toward the temple around them, the courtyards, gardens, and endless sky beyond. “So consider yourself welcome here, Opal. No waivers required. Just curiosity, kindness, and maybe a little patience when it comes to meditation. Some of the acolytes still fall asleep during the longer sessions.” Aang lowered his voice conspiratorially. “Between us, I did too when Monk Gyatso was teaching.” His grin widened. “A lot.”

  ❝𝓟eople fall asleep during meditation?❞ Opal asked, curiosity piqued. It would make sense why people would fall asleep, they were in a calm and quiet state of mind. Sitting in the same position for however long it may take. ❝At least they're comfortable, I suppose.❞ She added with a bit of a laugh toward the end of her sentence. ❝How long do meditations usually last for? Not that it's going to be a deal breaker for me. I've already made up my mind.❞ She was glad that so far, Avatar Aang had been so welcoming to her coming aboard air temple island and this new lifestyle. It was a step in a new direction for the world and one that she was more than happy to take part in. One that her ancestors would be proud of. And those that will come after. ❝Everyone has to start somewhere, and I'm happy to start here. Thank you.❞ She offered a respectable bow. ❝Where do we officially start, though? What's first?❞

  ❝𝓡eally? You were able to do that?❞ Opal said with a bit of amazement in her voice. After all these years, she was still surprised by her grandma's stories and what she was able to accomplish in her youth, and her old age. She only hoped that she would be able to strive for such achievements in her own life. Knowing that her mother and aunt had already made large names for themselves, it was up to her and her siblings to continue the trend. ❝Don't worry! We don't have to do any crazy trick shots like that.❞ She took a seat next to her grandma and rested her head on her lap. It was comforting, calming. Despite the older woman's hard emotional exterior, there was still something that was deeply grounded in her old soul. ❝If all else fails, I could just put a little gust around you. Describe what I'm doing. You can still feel air currents and breezes... with air there isn't much to see anyway. It's invisible for the most part.❞ She added, moving her hands slightly as she spoke.

Kai snorted at that, folding his arms loosely over his chest. “Oh, now you’re strategizing. I like this side of you.” His grin turned teasing as he tilted his head. “Use Avatar Aang as the opening argument, then hit him with the ‘it improves agility, teamwork, and airbending control’ angle before he can object. That’s sneaky.”

He could already picture it—half the island zipping through the air, laughing and yelling across the courts instead of quietly shuffling between meditation and chores all day. Honestly, it sounded like exactly what everyone needed.

“And y’know…” Kai added, leaning back against the stable wall, “bringing back an ancient airbender sport actually sounds kinda important when you put it like that. Not just fun. Cultural restoration and all that serious stuff.” He made a vague gesture with his hand before smirking again. “Boom. That right there? That’s how we win Tenzin over.”

  𝓞pal raised a brow and smirked, hearing Kai jump on board with the idea of starting the airball league. It could be a great asset to the new nation. ❝If that works, we could try bison polo- though I don't know how well Juicy and I would fare with the game. He gets winded easily and doesn't have too much stamina.❞ She added with a slight frown. She lifted her arm to rest a finger against her bottom lip. ❝We could be defenders, though. Doesn't require too much movement. Just need to block goals.❞ Turning back to the topic at hand. ❝Do we want to ask opinions of others before going to Tenzin? Though I'm pretty sure with those arguments, it should be fine. We should get the approval.❞

He paused, still gazing out over the site of his greatest defeat. Here had died not only thousands of soldiers and sailors from around the world, but the vision of a United Forces dedicated to fostering peace and security everywhere. The airbenders had taken up the mantle, but it was clear they weren't ready for such a chaotic and dangerous world just yet.

  𝓣here was a moment of silence between them after she heard Iroh mention that they had to take the opportunity that they were given. However, after a few seconds, the silence was broken and he spoke again, wanting to admit something in confidence to her. The airbender blinked a couple of times as she held the weight of what was being asked. Someone as high status of the General asking to confide in her. In some aspects, she was the Princess of Zaofu, after all. Granddaughter of Toph Beifong, and a member of the new air nation. Any worries she previously had about what might be said had subsided. ❝—Is everything okay?❞
