Is there a romantic way to say I love the way you let me down more than anything?

Sometimes you have to force yourself to remember awful things so you don’t go forgiving someone who broke you.

Most psychologically and/or physically abused children have been taught by parenting adults that love can coexist with abuse. And in extreme cases that abuse is an expression of love. This faulty thinking often shapes our adult perceptions of love. So that just as we would cling to the notion that those who hurt us as children loved us, we try to rationalize being hurt by other adults by insisting that they love us.

When you live in the dark for so long, you begin to love it. And it loves you back, and isn’t that the point? You think, the face turns to the shadows, and just as well. It accepts, it heals, it allows. But it also devours.

Love is a rage that never quite slaughters. a murder with no body. a lighthouse       sinking invisible ships. a robber with no hands.

Meeting your soul mate is like walking into a house you’ve been in before - you will recognize the furniture, the pictures on the wall,the books on the shelves, the contents of drawers: You could find your way around in the dark if you had to.

I daydream about you covering my body with yours while bullets slice through my apartment or a stampede of wild animals tears through the town. Any disaster I can think of and you are there, covering me, face pressed against the back of my skull, heavy body melting on top of mine not because you’re taking something but because in this world there’s no other way to touch everywhere unless someone you don’t want to die is dying. I could wish for something softer but you know me. I love a tragedy. I love when it’s urgent. You could save me even if I didn’t need saving.

A profound love between two people involves, after all, the power and chance of doing profound hurt.

Don’t be afraid anymore. Not of anyone. Not of anything. Nothing. Ever again. Listen to me: not ever again.
