making a post out of this because comments have an annoying format. chosen on the basis of pure vibes + i had fun in different ways watching these
Eternity (2025): banger set+costume design as well as colourgrading. Could've been a bit gayer but that's ok.
the Knives Out trilogy (Knives Out, Glass Onion, Wake Up Dead Man): as a movie my fave is the second one, that's when the series really Decides on what it's gonna be. in my heart my fave is the third one, if you like noticing Patterns and hints and Visual Themes (+political commentary) these all bang but especially the third.
Caught Stealing (2025): idk how you are with gore this might be a bit too much, i know that it flirted with my personnal limit (but im pretty squeamish). lots of fighting (yay!), villains with fun moral compass (yay!), matt smith is a punk (yay!), kitty cat (yay!), and absolute BANGER musical score <3
The Bad Guys movies (one and two): the animation is so much fun the characters are so much fun i. i cant describe it better than an explosion of fun.
The Outsiders (1983): do you like it when boys are best friends <3 and also there's random gang stuff in the background but mostly this is about boys who are best friends <3 and ofc the visuals are amazing but like. it's coppola ofc they would
Wild Foxes (2025): this is also about boys who are best friends and struggle to explicitely say it and. struggle to be people. and also boxing in the background. but again mostly this is about boys who don't know how to emotions but they have them. trust they have them
Arco (2025): a boy falls from the future, wearing a rainbow dress. the animation is beautiful and the worldbuilding is so fun and did i mention the animation is so beautiful and you can feel just how much this movie Loves nature the birds the trees the world it's in love with it.
East of Wall (2025): extremely Real. these are real people living real lives and. you can smell the dust from behind your screen. it feels like you've lived that life before, even if you've never owned a struggling ranch with too many kids running around. oh and it has horses :) so :) yay :)
L'Amour Ouf (2024), english title "Beating Hearts": caaaan you tell i like boys who are angry and don't know how to emotions. caaan you tell i also like it when they fight. just an absolute masterpiece of a movie. They say it's about love but really it's about growing up. And not knowing how to be yourself. And fields of yellow flowers.
Mars Express (2023): Animated! The alcoholic sullen detective archetype but she is a woman. Her best friend is a robot. We're in the future. There's some robot upheaval intrigue. It's about faith, about choosing to believe. It also has the most beautiful space travel shot I've ever seen.
Voleuses (2023), english title "Wingwomen": three thieves in a qpr! they love each other! they also steal things but that's secondary! there's a pony! there's a grandma who smokes weed! there's a bunny rabbit! yay!
Nimona (2023): i havent actually seen this one in forever and you also might have seen it before. medieval sci fi, somehow, and it's queer, and it's about otherness, and being too much and too different for the world, and forging yourself a family anyway. it's also about this punk rock kid who can shapeshift and tries to be a supervillain (cough cough)'s assistant.
Tenet (2020): uh. it's like if timetravel was weirder. it's really confusing. i love it. i need to rewatch it.
Baby Driver (2017): every single beat of the narrative is synchronised to the musical score. masterpiece of editing/directing. it has cute cars. lotsa stealing. im realising im reccing you a lot of thieving movies.
Easy A (2010): funnyyyy. i just love how they wrote the characters. olive and her family's relationship are everything to me. it's just joy in a bottle.
Charlie Bartlett (2017): i dont actually know how to rec this movie? you kinda just gotta try it out. you just gotta let charlie charm you.
Human Traffic (1999): one day+night in the uk nightclub scene. they just had so much fun filming it you cant help but have fun alongside them. fun fact moff looks a Lot like baby (like 16yo) ren
Empire Records (1995): kids! friends! a music store! i dont know what else to say (except that lucas would be super friend with the aforementionned moff from human traffic and i rlly need them to meet)
Dogma (1999): weird movie about murder angels (matt damon is very good at playing angelfaced murderboys) and also the 13th apostle and also god is an autistic woman and it got Flamed by conservatives when it came out (they had to add disclaimers at the start. the disclaimers are very funny too) but it actually has a few interesting angles on faith imo. oh it also has two random stoners in there. yay
Mid90s (2018): skater boys, growing up, weird brothers, the visuals are very still and california-yellow and it feels like those endless summers from when you were a kid and learning about grief.
Sing Street (2016): irish kids starting a band. watch out for the brothers in this one. they get me so bad. can you. can you sense a theme already? also the songs bang
Les Aventuriers (1967) english title "The Last Adventure": it's so close to being polyamorous it was only stopped by the 1967 of it all. It has Lino Ventura the icon being best friends and manhandly as always. It has boats, it has treasure, it has a plane flying under the arc of triumph, it's wonderful.
