Interview with the Vampire (2022-) | 2.08 BTS
Sam Reid, Assad Zaman, and Jacob Anderson in the behind the scenes for 2.08 And That's the End of It. There's Nothing Else.
I absolutely agree that Lestat would have saved Claudia if he could.
What kills me though is the sequence of events. Claudia is sentenced first, and Lestat DOES have the energy to save her, but he chooses to sit there and do nothing because he can't risk it if he wants to save Louis. He has to save Louis. So he simply watches Claudia sentenced to death, and then afterwards, he watches her die.
It's not the same as it would have been if Louis' sentence came first. If that was the case, we might have seen Lestat save him and then he could try to do the same for Claudia but fail. He would hate himself for failing, but we wouldn't hold it against him because he tried.
Instead, Lestat knowingly sacrificed Claudia to protect Louis. It was never about her, no matter that they both loved her, no matter that they both wanted to save her. It was only ever about them.
And Lestat will have to carry that with him forever, that he chose Louis over her. He let her die without trying to stop it for his love of Louis. I'd be willing to bet that he lives with Claudia's ghost even more intensely than Louis does.
