Everything spirals outta control if not for darry

Our boy hides it from everyone so they only find out when he physically can’t hide it anymore and he’s at his worst

Surprisingly two bit is the most calm when it comes to this

At least for Darry…

He inherited their mothers nurturing side so he hella locks in

Even tho Darry is very stubborn and annoying when he’s sick

Quite like their father used to be so it’s quite hilarious and bittersweet for the others to watch the junior versions of their parents bickering

But at the end of the day pony feels it’s the least they can do for him after all they do for him even if it means obtaining his illness

the only similarity between these two? they were both born at a very young age

Steve was satisfied after johnny was born. Six kids was enough

Even lil Darry speculated that something might’ve been wrong with Steve because of how bipolar he was ab everything

Curtis parents: we’re having another baby

(Also I know they were all rlly young but bear with me and gimme the illusion that they were thinking like this it makes it funnier 🙏)

But when pony was born even Steve was like aww baby!

then he saw his parents buckling pony into the car and he took it personal

The very first instance where a hissy fit resulted in a nose injury

Hence ✨huge ahh nose✨

Then they got older and the two peas in a pod duo with him and soda that they were known for weakened. Soda was too busy with baby pony to pay attention to him!

So he tried to make soda jealous by spending all his time with Johnny

It didn’t work. sodas oblivious

As he got even older like late elementary school age, pony (and Johnny) were like the babies.

That part with Johnny didn’t bother him. He cherry picked what pissed him off, it was PONY that pissed him off

Like Steve was here first he couldn’t believe the audacity for stealing his built in best friend right from him

Then in their teens it got deeper cause pony was successful in school and always made everyone proud and Steve was always only background noise

Always second choice.

And Steve doesn’t take grudges lightly, so he says he resents pony for a lot of his life and they’re never really close

But little did Steve know, ponyboy felt a very similar way

He was the SEVENTH child

That’s an uneven number, everyone already had their duos and pony was so so different from the rest of his brothers

He feels very out of place and Steves dismissive behavior makes him feel worse sometimes too.

But have they ever talked about this to anyone? No. Never.

It’s been like this forever and they haven’t done too much about it even if prompted by their siblings or parents

But in the end, no matter what they say, they don’t hate each other, they’re brothers.

While they don’t always say “I love you” they don’t need to because it’s not worth anything without actions and that’s how they show love

Steve is the definition of “only I get to mess with my kid brother”

When pony would come home from school as a little kid with bruises, Steve would get pissed af that someone had the audacity to pick on HIS little brother

Little pony was crying his eyes out in little Steve’s arms while he was plotting some kids demise

Turns out the miniature dumbass fell down a stair or two at school during parent pick up

Oh btw pony stopped crying when Steve hugged him

In a more recent event, pony and Steve were out together for some reason and they got chased by socs and one grabs hold of pony

This was after the whole bob situation in this au

So like Steve goes ballistic!

When they get away from the socs and catch their breath, Steve frantically checks that he’s ok, one hand on his shoulder and the other cupping his face

The kind of interaction that happens and they never talk about again.

Like from an outsiders (lol) perspective it seems like he’s so easily pissed by ponyboy but he’s also so easily defensive in pony’s favor

It’s so obvious how much he cares to everyone EXCEPT for ponyboy

And pony cares too

Like he and the others make fun of Steve sometimes but never maliciously.

But if he hears someone at school say something about Steve he gets REAL sassy

Like he won’t let it go until the other person apologizes

Ofc he’s like this for all of his brothers but Steve has in fact been bullied before so it’s smth he knows he’s sensitive to

He’s kinda like Phillip Hamilton in blow us all away except for the dying

Like he WOULD duel someone if he had to

“Damn you’re Steve Curtis’s brother? He’s a freak!”

“You’d know all about that wouldn’t you, you ogre”

Ok maybe he’d have a way better comeback than that but yk what I mean 😭

Point is they’d kill for each other and they care sm ab each other in a way most people wouldn’t understand

they just suck at communication.
