Do you have any good fantastical spooky movies from classic movie era? I liked La Belle et la Bête (1946) and would love something similar.
I love this topic, you and I are of such a similar mind about this that I am actually in the situation of having skipped a number of spooky movies because I wanted to save them for the Hallowtimes. So I will soon have more!!
But in the meantime, I believe the film for you is Last Year At Marienbad (1961), dir. Alain Resnais. Très très surreal, set.....actually that feels too definitive, let's say "staged" at some sort of liminal French chateau that's all tableaus and nightmares. Also like, not not possibly a sort of Beauty & the Beast situation, in its own way? The kind of movie that has a whole section of its Wikipedia page for Interpretations, right before another for Influence. Where: Criterion Channel, or free on Kanopy with a library card

Thank you! I will check it out - also please write up your Hallowtimes viewings too.
WILL DO, also I just realized I have another one for you! As it was first unfolding I was like, is this really a ghost story, Letterboxd?, but just wait!
The film is Ugetsu (1953) by Kenji Mizoguchi. It's set during a period of a lot of civil wars and upheaval in 16th century Japan, and I was impressed by how much it empathizes with the experience of women in these kinds of environments---score one for 1950s Japan.
Mostly though I will just leave you with this review that imo really gets it:
Where: many places for this one! free on Tubi and Kanopy with a library card, also streaming on the Criterion Channel and HBO Max
Seen a couple posts on the dashboard lately about writing with ADHD. So, for the ADHD and neurodivergent folks who like writing but struggle sometimes… check out StimuWrite.
You can set it to make little sounds as you type (or leave them off), and emojis pop up in the corner. You can change the background, dark and light themes, set your word goal, and it gives you a percentage and total word count at the bottom. Though it’s more meant for getting a draft written up, so it doesn’t have spell check or anything like that. You’re meant to just copy and past what you write here into Google Docs or Word or Scrivener or whatever else you use and go from there. Honestly love it when I’m struggling to get words down, though. And apparently there’s an update now for StimuWrite 2?👀
Anyways, give it a try if it looks like it may help. It’s currently name-your-own-price.
Yo I just downloaded this thing and hammered out 3000 words????? Which is more than I’ve written in years????????
Hey I’ve accidentally written 20,000 words in six days.
