Coming back to this just bc I can. Just watching Xena do the impossible on a regular basis, like it’s a part of her, ingrained, normal. We accept that, sure! Why not! We love her for it! But it’s just so impossible to divorce this borderline magical Xena from the fact that we see her this way only bc Gabrielle sees her this way. Can Xena flip for thirty straight seconds off a cliff onto a pirate ship? Can she scale a sheer cliff face with her fingertips and a wounded Gabrielle on her back? Can she defeat the entire Persian advance party with some home alone traps and her fierce determination to live up to what Gabrielle expects of her? YES - precisely bc Gabrielle expects and believes it of her, and that is as much a reflection on Gabrielle as it is on Xena.

in more pleasant news: this year is seeing the biggest humpback migration in Australian history, bigger than it was PRE whaling. That's right, there are more humpbacks migrating off the coast of Australia than there were BEFORE industrial whaling started.
