The last book I read: Running Close to the Wind by Alexandra Rowland. so ridiculous and so fun, I enjoyed it so much. pirates and espionage and sea serpents and cake competitions and just a great time all round (brother julian my beloved). read it because I saw someone describe it as our flag means death meets terry pratchett which. yeah, actually
A book I’d recommend: so many but my go to recommendation is the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde. wonderfully whimsical (the in universe productions of Richard III will never not make me laugh) and also a little sad at times, one day I will find someone else who has read them and will let me talk about how much I love Thursday and Pickwick the dodo and Landen and everyone in bookworld
A book I couldn’t put down: Running Close to the Wind but also Apparently Sir Cameron Has To Die by Greer Stothers. apparently my vibe lately is books that are some flavour of batshit insane. prophecy decrees sir cameron has to die to defeat the evil sorcerer so he throws himself on the sorceror's mercy to survive. cue cameron being turned into a vulture, light bondage and also a plot twist that I enjoyed so much
A book I’ve read twice or more: so many but the last one that was a reread was The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde
A book on my TBR: I don't keep any form of an actual tbr list but I've been wanting to read End of Watch by Stephen King forever so I'll say that
A book I’ve put down: last one I gave up on was Space Opera by Catherynne M Valente. the premise (space eurovision) sounded like it was written for me personally but the sentences were so long and meandering that it made me, a native english speaker, feel like I had absolutely no grasp of the language so I gave up. truly thought I was having a stroke or something, I just could not wrap my head around any of it
A book on my wish list: Brigands & Breadknives by Travis Baldree. I loved Legends & Lattes so I'm excited for more in this universe (although I need to read Bookshops & Bonedust first)
A favourite book from childhood: I will always love the eragon series no matter what anyone says. I reread them all last year and honestly still really enjoyed them, though the second one is my particular favourite (roran my beloved, they better do right by you in the tv series or I will RIOT)
A book I’d give to a friend: just read Dragons, Heists and Other Retirement Plans by Meg Pennerson and found it incredibly dull so I shall be gifting that to one of the gang at the weekend 😂
A book of poetry or lyrics that I own: I don't like poetry but I do own a complete Shakespeare collection that includes the sonnets so that I guess
A non-fiction book that I own: one of my most prized possessions is the Folio Society Shackleton collection which includes The Heart of the Antarctic and South, I also have the FS edition of Shackleton's Boat Journey by Frank Worsley. they're so beautiful, way too nice to actually read so instead I just pull the maps out to look at every so often or flick through the pictures of my beloved girl the Endurance
What I’m currently reading: just started The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. it hasn't massively grabbed my attention yet but I'm not very far into it so I shall persevere
What I’m planning on reading next: unless I change my mind between now and finishing The Night Circus, which is entirely possible, The Fragile Threads of Power by VE Schwab is my next planned read (I miss the boys)
