The best advice we have: Put that person on ignore and continue playing the character. If they get their friends to harass you about it, or create different characters to harass you about it, don’t respond with anything beyond specifically telling that person to not contact you again on any character for any reason, put them on ignore again, then take screenshots of the harassment and open a GM ticket to report the harassment.

If they offered up some reasons as to why it was ‘bad’ that don’t boil down to, “It’s not a character concept I personally enjoy” then, by all means, consider their unwarranted criticisms and make changes if you see fit to make changes.

However, still put them on ignore as there is no legitimate reason for anyone to send unsolicited criticism of someone else’s RP profile; adults who come across something that isn’t their thing just click away and focus on what they enjoy.

Petty, immature children assume everyone wants their opinion even though nobody really does or that their opinion on what someone else is doing is necessary.

They are not “telling it like it is” or “trying to be helpful” or “having a harmless laugh”, they’re being a shit tier human garbage and they damn well know it.

There are always, unfortunately, going to be assholes who think their opinion on someone else’s RP is worth anything and you’ve really just got to try your best to remind yourself that they’re just a shitty person and don’t get to have a say in how you play your character.

Okay, so since I’m under a lot of fire, I want to say this: I’m not encouraging any kind of suicide. I have depression and know the struggles of such topics. I have been bullied in school for my weight and I know the pain. I’ve tried multiple times to end it in my past. 

I’M NOT ENCOURAGING BULLYING, SUICIDE, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT.

I just think it’s petty how people post things about people without proof, that’s the entertaining part. Not that someone is a pedophile or rapist, I don’t support that at all.

You called a blog that posted things calling people pedophiles, encouraging suicide, encouraging self harm, etc...”harmless” and straight up said it was drama to be laughed at and that people who were upset were over reacting.

That is encouraging exactly what you’re now trying to claim you aren’t encouraging and, honestly, I doubt anyone believes what you’re saying at this point.

The fact that you’ve been bullied is irrelevant and doesn’t mean you can’t also BE a bully or encourage bullying, which is exactly what you did in your original post.

You didn’t at all say the blog was petty, you said the people getting upset over it were being petty and overreacting.

Well over 100 people openly saw that and several called you out on it.

More probably saw it and decided not to say anything because people like you aren’t generally worth talking to as they can’t and won’t ever admit they hold terrible views and will instead double down on it (You’d fit in well at Failzeroth if you played WoW) when confronted...which is exactly what you did here.

You defended a trashy blog that was used by trashy, mean spirited people so they could be anonymous bullies as harmless.

That’s what people are angry about.

You also showed what kind of person you are as opposed to the kind of person you wanted to present to the world. You peeled back the layers and showed everyone that there was just garbage underneath. If I played FFXIV, I’d pre-emptively block you so I wouldn’t have to run the risk of ever having to interact with someone like you.

You’re rejected by RP groups because you’re actually a bad person who just pretends to be decent; problem is, your true behavior will always show through, as it did with the post you deleted and as it does with this post.

You need to grow up.

Okay, so I’ve recently been reading over the blog and honestly, it was very entertaining to read. I think people are over-reacting about the blog’s existence. I feel it was more a place where people could vent, and as you could tell, there was proof with some of the posts. Since I’ve been an outsider of the RP community due to being ignored/rejected/neglected by others, I related to a lot of the posts. Some people named, I’ve experienced the same thing. 

This whole thing was petty and you all have better things to do then fight against a harmless blog, you could… I dunno, maybe Christmas shop? 

Now I know people will hate me for fighting for the blog, but I’m the type of person to stay out of drama and grab some popcorn and watch it with a big grin on my face.

Blogs like that aren’t harmless.  They’re detrimental to any RP community, encouraging pettiness and cruelty.  It won’t hurt the big name RPers, either, as most of those named rolled their eyes and ignored it or made fun of it.

But it’s the smaller RPers who’re just getting their feet wet who see this kind of thing and freeze.  The idea that someone might not like their RP and decide to anonymously snipe at them on that blog (without them knowing who was doing the sniping) might make them rethink doing anything publically.

Which would mean less creativity, and more people deciding not to seek new RP partners or experiences.  

The lack of self awareness is stunning.

A few evenings ago my name was brought up in a conversation about people toxic to the roleplay community. I was on an alt that I haven’t really named much, so I don’t think the person knew I was in the chat channel.

But they said it and you know, it’s true. I was a toxic person to the roleplay community, both Varendil and I were toxic people, and I don’t think we’ve ever really truly apologized for that.

We took a community that was full of creative and talented people and used it as a playground to make ourselves look better. We thought ourselves better than others and decided to be loud about our false superiority. We were wrong. We were immature and toxic to a group of people who we should have been celebrating and working with. Roleplayers already get a bad rap, and what we did may have made that rap even worse.
