fuck people in their eye sockets

I know the second big bad of deadloch being taken out by a river (or a crocodile in the river) seems cliche but I think it’s part of a larger narrative in the show where rivers are agents of justice. it turned over the bodies or body parts in seasons one and two, it turns up evidence like bushy’s gun, it took out two villains who would have had the ability or the money and power to escape convictions. and both times they were white men killed by the river or the animals they claimed to be able to control, whether it’s Mr I’m a strong swimmer being taken out by the current or the croc king being eaten.

deadloch was not pulling punches with the metaphors this season. Al was literally conducting his king tide cultural business while stuck in a mascot suit replica of a spiritually important animal forced on him by a corporation exploiting the river itself

I like that we get to see Eddie’s hometown and realize that her shouting, swearing, and accusing people of murder in every interview is just how they communicate.

I haven’t seen anyone talk about this yet but in Deadloch s2 the scene where Tegan is shot and Amber immediately runs over, kisses her on the lips, says I love you, and then stands up and says who shot my maid of honor is comedy gold

ok I know this is a walp blog but I just realized that the backstory of Coriolanus Snow in the hunger games is entirely based on the real life of Carl Schmitt, the founder of modern fascism. They even have the same initials and everything. Carl came from a poor family that pooled everything together to send him to higher education because of his intellectual promise, and while he was at school he was simultaneously befriending Jewish people and immigrants and hanging with the artsy crowd while developing his fascistic ideology wherein people only have value when they are serving the state. During this time his best friend- a Jewish man- begs his parents to patronize Schmitt so he can continue school, even though Schmitt disowns him after he graduates. and his friend is murdered in the army. and he goes back to his friends family fake grieving and his friends dad writes him a blank check. he is in a romantic relationship with a burlesque dancer who is undocumented and he’s constantly chasing her despite her not being able to marry her because of her undocumented status. he is, based on his diaries, extremely racist and neurotic and unhinged, constantly self obsessed and contradicting himself to believe whatever is convenient for him. he joins the army and hates it because he has to talk to poor people even though his college professor mentor gives him a cushy army job. and then he writes the blueprint that the nazis use to start a fascist dictatorship. snow’s background is literally almost the same with a few tweaks, he is 100% based on the real founder of modern fascism.
