The government actually admitted during their stimulus package announcement that giving money to poor people would stimulate the economy because poor people are guaranteed to spend it (unlike rich people who use tax cuts just to get richer) which means THEY ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND ECONOMICS, BUT CHOOSE TO IGNORE IT EVERY SINGLE FUCKING YEAR JUST TO APPEASE THEIR WEALTHY VOTER BASE WHO HATES THE IDEA OF NEWSTART RECIPIENTS LIVING ABOVE THE POVERTY LINE.
