Thinking too much about Rei and his masks again.

The bottom layer mask is Furuya, the best PSB agent. The one others aspire to. He's efficient and calculated and always gets the job done. And he does so while juggling his undercover role(s).

From there, you have Bourbon, the mask Furuya devised to get himself into the Organization. Ruthless, clever, and cold, but he knows how to get what he wants by manipulating those around him.

Which means then we have Amuro, Bourbon's mask. Amuro was designed to blend seamlessly into the role of a friendly neighborhood barista/part-time apprentice detective. Everyone likes him, and, more importantly, everyone trusts him, even though they shouldn't.

But don't peel back all these layers, all these masks, because then you're left with just Rei, just Zero, who may not even know who he is anymore, not really. He's just a dozen or so traumas wrapped in a trenchcoat made up of his dead friends' personalities.
