As Keira returns the handshake, she looks the man up and down and ponders the use of the word ‘friend.’ It’s a funny thing to throw at someone meant to be your subordinate, for sure. Was he one of those ‘I’m not a regular boss, I’m a COOL boss’ types? Or maybe he was just that bold.
Regardless of how he was coming off JUST a bit smarmy in the moment, this man was still, by all accounts, important and in charge. And there was still a home stretch to run before finishing the hiring race.
So, she supposes, she should get herself moving. To get to the next part of her life, she needed to finish with this one, and that meant there wasn’t time to stand around.
“You like Sinatra, huh? His jazz is interesting. Jazz itself is a world of possibility- so many ways to improve, so many ways to BE.”
(She knows “My Way” isn’t really jazz, but still. There’s nothing wrong with a moment of appreciation for the genre.)
“That being said, what I’m drawn to at the moment is “Frontier Psychiatrist” by The Avalanches. It’s not easily pinned down, and a bit chaotic, while still maintaining its own special rhythm. And it’s not ashamed of sounding a bit strange.”
This question feels a bit more unusual, and a bit harder to answer. But there’s a feeling deep in her gut that screams “He will remember this.”
Sneaking an extra test into the intake interview? AND introducing it with a little admission of insecurity? Johann, you sly dog. She's...kinda impressed. Damn it.
“I have nothing against my current height, or smaller people, but let me answer your question with a question- why should I want to be small? Would I not, in some way, be asking to be less, regardless of whatever presence I’d maintain?”She folds her hands tightly and gives Johann a long stare.
“Sorry for being so abrupt, but I want to make it clear- I do not want to be less in any way. The way forward for everyone here is to grow, so let’s save the world by growing together. Let’s do something big.”
“I’m assuming you mean tangible accommodations- for me, that would be books to read. Both fiction and nonfiction are welcome. They give me a chance to do some research and put my brain to work, but also a place to rest my head if it were to ever feel weary. The human mind needs both ways to grow and small escapes, after all.”
Maybe it was like asking a genie for extra wishes via loopholes, but to her, the request felt as natural as breathing.
