Fun fact: The LEGO Ninjago Movie actually proves that yellow =/= a specific skintone on minifigures and can be used to represent any race.
So, there are at least 2 versions of the movie: the original US version and a UK version. The only major difference between the two is that the hosts of Good Morning Ninjago are different - the US has Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan, and the UK has Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway. All 4 of these are real people and voice themselves in the movie.
Now, because these are real people who have appeared on TV, we have actual pictures of all of them:
So we have official LEGO media depicting black people *and* white people with the standard yellow. There's also 2 of each
(For those less familiar with LEGO, there are 2 types of LEGO toytheme: licensed themes based on existing IPs like Marvel and Star Wars, and original themes created by LEGO themselves. Licensed themes give characters realistic and accurate skintones*, while original themes give minifigures yellow skin with the intention of having yellow represent everyone.)
*some brief history on licensed themes: the first licensed LEGO theme was Star Wars, beginning in 1999. In 2003, the first black minifigures were introduced, including Lando Calrissian and Shaquille O'Neal. This was the first time minifigures had realistic skintones instead of yellow. One year later in 2004, the white skintone was introduced and the 'licensed = accurate, original = yellow' rule was established and has been in place ever since, so 2003 remains the transition point between the 2 eras.
Update: there's another strong piece of evidence in the actual Ninjago TV series: the Pride flag
In S15, we see that Sally's guitar and van have Pride flags on them, but the specific design used is interesting because it's one with black and brown stripes. For the unfamiliar, the black and brown represent LGBTQ+ people of colour.
The use of these stripes suggests that people of colour exist within Ninjago, further proving that yes, yellow = everyone in LEGO.
I'm so glad that in 2026, LEGO still has the courage to use the word 'goon' in its truest form
If a robot with a soul makes a picture, is it real art or AI art?
Bugsnax is great because the characters all have actual depth and complexity, many of them have entirely realistic disagreements where both sides actually do have valid points, and some of them are legitimately brilliant LGBTQ representation...
And they all have names like this:

On today's episode of 'executives are fucking stupid', it turns out LEGO wanted to end the original Ninjago TV series with S7: Hands of Time and create a new show set in the continuity of the movie.
For those who haven't seen the movie: most of the worldbuilding is absent, the Ninja have very little depth and very few similarities to their show selves, and Spinjitzu and the Serpentine just do not exist.
Fortunately, the showrunners (Tommy Andreasen, Dan Hageman, and Kevin Hageman) all knew that this would be a terrible idea, so they tried their hardest to prevent this, eventually reaching a compromise with LEGO:
• They may continue to use the original continuity, building upon the established lore, worldbuilding, character development, etc
BUT
• They must incorporate some elements of the movie - specifically, the Ninja must use their movie designs, and Wu and Garmadon must return as soon as possible
Thus, S8: Sons of Garmadon and S9: Hunted were made. And I guess the threat of the show being replaced must have caused the writers to lock in harder than ever before, considering S8 and S9 are two of the best seasons the show ever had.
I never had any major problems with the redesigns (I actually prefer Cole, Lloyd, and Nya's new designs), and I always knew they were enforced by executives, but knowing now that they were a necessary sacrifice to keep the show going makes me appreciate them (and Ninjago's production team) even more.
Sometimes I wonder what the general audience thinks about some of the less famous Marvel/DC characters whenever they show up in newer movies. Do they know how old some of them are? Do some people believe that they were invented just for the movie?
Just look at Namor. He made his live-action movie debut in 2022 with Wakanda Forever, so for a lot of people, that's their first exposure to the character. How many casual fans know that Namor is the oldest character in the MCU, and that he was created a year before Captain America? Hell, he's only one month younger than Batman.
And what about She-Hulk? A lot of people would have first discovered her through her Disney+ series, yet she first appeared in 1980. She-Hulk predates Venom by 8 years, yet Venom is more famous purely because he's connected to Spider-Man.
And on the other end, we have Harley Quinn. Everyone knows Harley Quinn these days, which is kind of impressive (in comparison to most Marvel/DC characters) considering A) her live-action movie debut was 2016, and B) her very first appearance ever was in 1992 - she's one of the *newest* DC characters, yet she's in the top 10 (and arguably top 5) of most famous DC characters.

Lines in Ninjago that don't make much sense considering the story takes place in a fictional world and not our Earth:
- Jay saying Nadakhan's about to be 'French toast', specifically in reference to Nadakhan's accent
- Zane saying the treadmill was invented in 1818
- Clutch Powers speaking German
- Jay and Johnny Courageous using British slang ('tenner' and 'cuppa' respectively)
- Most accents in general (the only accent that actually has an in-universe justification? Russian)
- Jay mentioning the Three Musketeers
Things that somehow *do* make sense within the world of Ninjago
- A character (who happens to have a British accent) yelling 'For the Empire!' when entering a fight

Some simple Ninjago fanart I did
I guess 'well-meaning but inexperienced teenagers in important positions of power' is just one of my favourite tropes now
Jon Snow (A Song of Ice and Fire)
Percival Tartigrade (Ninjago: Dragons Rising)
One thing I've always found odd about the LEGO Ninjago Movie is that it doesn't include Spinjitzu. It's the Ninja's most iconic ability (the series was literally named Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu for 8 years), and it would probably have looked awesome considering how well-animated the entire movie is. But it's just... not there.
Imagine a Spider-Man movie with no webs. That's how it feels to me.
Ninjago: Dragons Rising for the first 3 seasons: "As this is a soft reboot, we've designed the show to be as understandable as possible for new viewers. We cover the basics really early on, and anything we bring back from the original show is either explained effectively or doesn't need an explanation. Yes, your experience will be *enhanced* if you've seen at least the first 5 seasons of the original show, but you won't be lost if you haven't."
Ninjago: Dragons Rising in season 4: "Anyway, for this part of the story we're bringing back a fairly unusual 14 year old plot point that has not been mentioned once in the series since it actually happened. Also, we're revealing extra information about the prophecy that was introduced and resolved 14 years ago that was originally the core plot point of the entire series."
What is your opinion on Steven Moffat as a Doctor Who writer?
Basically perfect
Has some flaws, but still mostly great
He's alright, I guess
Has some good moments, but is mostly awful
Absolutely atrocious
I just want to see the results
Steven Moffat: showrunner of Doctor Who for the 11th and 13th Doctors, and has also written for the 9th, 10th, and 15th Doctors.
Moffat has written the following episodes:
- The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
- The Girl in the Fireplace
- Blink
- Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
- The Eleventh Hour; The Beast Below; The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone; The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang; A Christmas Carol
- The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon; A Good Man Goes to War; Let's Kill Hitler; The Wedding of River Song; The Doctor, the Widow, and the Wardrobe
- Asylum of the Daleks; The Angel Take Manhattan; The Snowmen; The Bells of Saint John; The Name of the Doctor; The Day of the Doctor; The Time of the Doctor
- Deaap Breath; Into the Dalek; Time Heist; The Caretaker; Dark Water/Death in Heaven; Last Christmas
- The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar; The Girl Who Died; The Zygon Inversion; Heaven Sent/Hell Bent; The Husbands of River Song
- The Return of Doctor Mysterio; The Pilot; Extremis/The Pyramid at the End of the World; World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls, Twice Upon a Time
- Boom; Joy to the World
I feel that as a writer, he understands the character of the doctor. Yeah there are times where he severely missed steps like one. He sometimes goes into issues that he has no idea about or when he’s writing about women he seems to have two kinds of women in mind. Then the towel and a bossy woman. Now I as a bossy woman appreciate it, but I know that some people find it annoying. Still it’s better than Davies
He understands the Doctor better than any other modern showrunner full stop. By a lot.
Yeah, agreed. He understands that the doctor is the same person, even if their face changes. I also feel that he allows even with his writing for each actor to put their own stamp on it, which helps the process of doctors. Russell tends to want every single doctor to be more or less the same. I say that the reason why each doctor unique under his run is due to the acting talent of the actors that were chosen.
The problem I had with Moffat is that, in my opinion, he wasn’t great at planning an overall season arc. It seemed to me that he was always trying to go bigger than the previous season, and it just…it got too convoluted for me. I’m also not entirely sure I like how he pulled off River Song, it felt like she had a lot of potential that needed much longer to build up. That said, his individual episodes during Davies’ run are incredible.
That's why I picked has some flaws.
When his episodes showed up in the RTD era, it always felt like a big event. When he ran the show, there were some flaws and some changes from the RTD era that I missed (Amy and Rory not really feeling connected to earth at all or the fact that we saw Amy's parents in just one episode), but I loved Eleven so that covered a multitude of issues. And The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang absolutely blew my mind with how much he opened up the narrative possibilities.
So yes. Some flaws but overall I miss the eleven era especially after the R2D era crashed and burned so hard (are we SURE that it was RTD who came back and not his evil mirror universe counterpart DTR, Davies T Russel who hates Doctor Who?)

Which unpopular era of a beloved modern show do *you* consider to be better?
Doctor Who - 13th Doctor Era (S11-13)
Game of Thrones - S7-8
