I tried to rewatch wttt for this so I could actually write a full fledged analysis but I almost threw up because I got too excited, so this is a ramble.

Nevada and New York are the same person but in very fundamentally different ways; the main difference between the two of them is the dominance of control in their day to day lives.

They are both incredibly assertive people who obviously dislike those they are surrounded by, being very seldom and selective in the friends they make as well as the Mafia having major ties to their founding / status as a state. (The Commission for new york, and the founding of nevada… for well Nevada).

New York has a lot more control of his autonomy and the people around him then Nevada. New York is considered a very highly "prestigious" state, he seems less controlled by Government and his violent tendencies are allowed to be on full display, rather then hinted at like Nevada’s.

Nevada is almost protected by his proximity to New York, which I imagine was the initial allure of it; nothing truly genuine on his half when he first realized New York had something of a crush on him.

Nevada has grown cold, calculating, a world where someone always has the ability to override no on anything they want; that’s something you have to become. He can read people, he has to read people.

He could realize New York obviously had some level of attraction to him.

On New York’s half, his attraction to Nevada wasn’t all pure hearted. He liked the glitz and glamour Nevada seems to represent. He was a good time, something to escape the mundanity of what his life has become, existing for 400 years does something to a person & they’ll try to use anyone for an escape.

Obviously, this goes wrong. They both view themself as using the other in their relationship; and have to cope when they fall for the person who exists behind the role they’ve assigned the other.

Nevada has to hate himself for finding New York’s grumbling endearing, for letting him get so deep that he cannot see a way to push him out; New York has to realize that those moments where Nevada is actively himself and not just the façade he puts on to please himself and others make him feel more alive then the partying or the gambling or anything he’s really felt in the past two hundred years.

I definitely think Nevada falls first, but he spends so much time in denial that New York is the first one to really realize his feelings.

Folks want a quote from a Black or Indigenous person for their blog, but they don't wanna change their environments or GOD FORBID their consumer habits, even as the oceans rise to your door and the wildfires and logging bring down every old-growth forest.

anyway. I'm sitting here under a pungent yellow sky and aching for my people and the forests of Ontario. The Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins First Nation, for the colonizers) fled on boats while the trees next to their houses burned. Thunder Bay is full of displaced Indigenous peoples trying to breathe with air full of ash. Gayaashki-zaagiing Anishinaabeg (Gull Bay First Nation, again, for You Folks) peoples were ordered to evacuate in the middle of the night and were just told there are no accommodations for them, now that they've escaped. Thousands of people scrambling for protection and safety, while a bunch of white colonizers complain about the smell of smoke.

None of this is new. It's all a very old song.
