Saya Yakovleva, an Indigenous Sakha Artist from the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Siberia, Russia
A lot of her work is based on or inspired by native Siberian folk masks and decorations. In the first and fourth picture the design is based on the traditional Sakha/Yakut bridal mask known as an Annakh (Аннах):
"Annakh is a [a traditional face covering or head covering] from the wedding attire of a Yakut bride in archaic times (before the 17th-18th centuries). The material from which the annakh was sewn depended on the wealth of the bride's parents. In the richest family, ankhs were sewn from sable skin, in a poor one - from lynx, in a poorer one - from beaver, in the poorest one - from mare's rags. There were bedspreads made of rovduga (suede from deer or elk skin) and hair net. The rich had decoratively decorated bedspreads, even the slits were trimmed with beads. Annakh is a kind of amulet of the bride [protecting her from harm] and the evil eye of people from a opposing family. It is also the main attribute in other wedding ceremonies (for example, when meeting the groom's parents, the daughter-in-law's face must be covered with an annakh)." - Saya Yakovleva

Someone will point out the disproportionate popularity of White male characters and people will come out of the woodwork to go 'that's not racism or misogyny it's just this character is more interesting/hot/relatable' as if the very notion that White men are more interesting/hot/relatable than women or characters of colour isn't literally racism and misogyny. Thanks for proving the point!
Being hairy is so awesome #mammal
remembering that time i got drunk and told a guy he looked like a wrought iron gate
he didnt respond to my observation. just sorta stood there

i think one of the worst things the left wing internet ever did was push the idea that oppression is basically a virtue, and being oppressed is a sign of your morality. it has made it like…impossible for some of you to hold the idea that most people are privileged in some ways and oppressed in others. AND a lot of you seem to have it in your mind that terrible people cannot be oppressed, and that oppressed people cannot do terrible things, which is a dangerous rhetoric to hold imo.

The most basic, intractable fact about mental illnesses is that you simply cannot willpower your way out of them. The only exceptions to this rule are the ones I have, which continue to disable me due to lack of determination and other grave personal flaws
ive said it before and i’ll say it again not enough historical romance focuses on technicalities
really for this kind of thing it’s no use going to published trad romance and i should know that. the really good shit is 400k on fanfiction dot net for a heterosexual pairing you’ve never considered from a piece of media you havent thought about in years written by a bored doctoral candidate who’s read a lot of primary sources from the long 18th century
recently rediscovered my absolute favorite entry in the genre: customs and duties by tortoiseshells, which is an insane technicalityromance set in 1738 boston, ft the stuffy british navy guy from pirates of the caribbean/ofc, smuggling, puritanism in the john calvin sense, the legal realities of widowhood, several real historical governors of massachusetts, debts, accounts, and of course customs regulations
I would also like to nominate and psyche's lamp shall darkling be, a story based on the 2025 Frankenstein movie that gets into the intricacies of 1850s convent school life, the process of Catholic ecclesiastical courts verifying miracles, multiple points of mid 19th century marriage and inheritance laws pertaining to property, and also spells the word connection with an X so you know the author has been in the 19th century literature trenches
