āI told Sunset About Youā Episodes 1 and 2
I had really high expectation, and they did not fail me. They met and surpassed my expectations and that is one very rare thing.Ā
There is just something about this series that seems different, itās not really but it still is.
What I think made me feel this way, is the normality in which Oh Aew told Teh that he liked his friend in episode 2 and how the other got excited for him AS HE SHOULD but the thing is we donāt normally see this kind of interaction. We either see it in a coming out sort of way which can go in many different directions, or we see it when boys tell each other they like some girl or when girls tell each other like some guy and they get giddy and happy, but the interaction here shocked me in a really good way because (for the sake of explaining I hope I donāt say anything bad) they showed it just like a straight couple acts which proves the normality of LGBTQ+ and how they should not be treated like they are not normal or how they should not be exaggerated in a way that they donāt actually feel like it represents how they really are.
This is something that jumped out to me the second I saw it but Iāll come back to it in a bit.
Boy did they cry a lot, I almost cried. No one can make me cry as much as Zee in episode 12 of Why RU and the entirety of UWMA but they were close to. This episode was the introduction to the rivalry starting from their friendship to how they came to hate each other. Well āhateā is a strong word. They donāt hate each other per say, they just had a fight as kids about their hopes and dreams and got into competition at such a young age, when we all know that competition when it comes to Uni and work , starts when we are older, they did not get that sadly.
There is just something inside Teh that wants to help Oh Aew and this is where their journey starts, he wants them to be friends again. The way he ran after him after the results came out and the way he followed him to the beach and kept notice of him at all times makes me see true and real friendship that never ended.
The results scene was really stressful for me since at the time I was also waiting for my own masters application results (I got accepted I know no one cares but still) so I felt that.
As previously said, the confession of Oh Aewās feelings towards Bas to Teh was a big turning point for me and made me look at the show and be like, yes, this is good, this is really good. At first I thought that Teh was feeling jealous because he had feelings for Oh Aew but it turned out to be friendship jealousy sorta? He didnāt seem to have feeling for him yet at the time, but maybe he was walking on a thin line between jealousy for friendship and love.
The boat scene was a nice way to showcase the new OST (Links at the end of the post) and still nice to listen to and watch them circle. I was confused again there because I thought Teh was jealous, but it still seemed like he was jealous of people spending time with Oh Aew and not the idea of feelings.
āDonāt give my time to others.ā āYou too, donāt give mine to other too.ā Yes, I donāt know why but I really loved this quote. It held more than it should really, but itās really nice. THE REALISATION, Teh realizes something; he likes the smell of coconut now. Heās starting to develop feelings without knowing he is. I canāt wait to see whatās next.
One Ā last thing, they were studying Chinese the entire episode, and when Oh Aew complained about the 5000 Characters, I felt that deeply, I have just recently taken HSK5 and Iām still scarred because of how hard that was, and Iām waiting for the results, they do only need HSK4 Ā for their exams but still.
The explanation of the Chinese word 伤åæ (Shangxin) Sad, was really nicely explained, I wish my teacher had explained it that way for me, I mean wish Teh was my tutor; I would have had HSK6 by now.
