23:30hrs - the first pie of hundreds. This stooge was contracted to be locked in the stocks and become the recipient of all types of gunk that club-goers could freely throw at him throughout the time the venue was open. At this point, he would have known he was in for a long and challenging night.

Of all the usual gunge substances that slapstick stooges encounter, the traditional mixture of flour and water must surely be the hardest to deal with.

It has its advantages. For a start, it’s perfectly safe, and it can be mixed to any consistency - from a thin gruel that can be splashed over or hurled at a victim, through to a satisfyingly dense and weighty dough-paste that’s likely to cause any underpants it’s poured inside to slither downwards.

But its disadvantages? As the trainee in the photos will almost certainly soon be finding out, its residue is extremely hard to remove. Most likely this novice will be picking gobbets of dried gluten from off his pubes and body hairs for days to come.

For this photo, French stooge Daniel Moncorgé chose a mixture of sump oil, soot, and black treacle. Apparently, he took two-and-a-quarter hours in the shower to get clean afterwards.
