can i say it’s contextually crazy that when spite has a knife to illario’s throat, all lucanis can do is fight his own body and yell to rook for help, and spite’s wing moves out of the way so he can turn back towards rook. it’s not a subtle movement, it fully retracts as he turns. if lucanis not controlling the wings is important in the romance scene it’s just as important here. this is a demon that’s fully lost it and taken over and is trying to kill someone its host loves, and lucanis is trying to get help to stop this. and the demon... moves out of the way so that can happen? even in that state, completely blinded by rage, it still wants them to reach out to rook and trusts their intervention

It's also a fantastic early sign that Lucanis and Spite are never as divided as they think they are. Not to get too pretentious about it but in a lot of ways Spite serves as Lucanis's id: he is the angry howling monkey at the bottom of your brain that WANTS things like a furious toddler, and wants them all the more when they are denied. But at the end of the day Spite still wants the things that Lucanis wants, because Spite doesn't have functional desires separate from his host. It's just that some of the things he wants are things that Lucanis also desperately doesn't want, all at the same time. Humans don't have the simplicity of spirits; they can want and even desperately crave completely conflicting things simultaneously. Lucanis is so angry he wants his cousin dead; Lucanis is so lonely he wants his betrayer safe. Spite accesses the desire that is closest to his own functionality and pursues it with the single-minded purity of purpose that makes a spirit what it is, but when Lucanis turns to Rook for help Spite does too.
