i do think lobbying for data centres over climate goals should be considered a crime against humanity btw
“Because the truth is, tech doesn’t have an image problem. It doesn’t have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What’s wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn’t successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What’s wrong is that he’s trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that’s designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn’t that you haven’t told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.”

Everyone should be aware of nitter.net
for any address to twitter you can replace the “x.com” with “nitter.net” and you will be able to browse as if you have an account. Lifesaver.
Similarly, imginn.com works for most Instagram addresses. I still haven’t found one for Facebook.

no one cares that you shave your legs because of sensory issues shut the fuck up forever
really galling amount of people misinterpreting this post so i'd like to clarify. i'm saying that when discussions about patriarchal beauty standards and the way women are heavily shamed and coerced into eschewing their own natural state of being (hairy) are occurring, it is unhelpful (AT BEST) to interrupt and say that the reason YOU remove the hair from your body is because of sensory issues. that's not what we're talking about. stop asking for validation for doing something that society at large wants you to do. stop derailing the conversation because you feel uncomfortable about being made aware that you, for whatever reason it is, adhere to harmful, unfair and ridiculous beauty standards. you're stepping into the middle of an important conversation that needs to be had and making it all about you. shut the fuck up forever.
also quite frankly i think a lot less people would experience sensory issues if they let their hair grow out so that it isn't bristly and rough and irritating. and i cannot help but wonder why these sensory issues aren't as predominant in men. maybe you're uncomfortable with the hair on your body because you've been taught to be uncomfortable with it. just a thought.
Also also an enormous amount of clothes and hygiene products marketed towards women are designed to punish being hairy and if you understand that you can work around it and let your hair grow anyways
But acknowledging it is the first step
I think adults need summer vacation. Like let's just close down all our jobs for three months and play outside. Please. I'm so tired.
The thing is, in order to have a healthy and robust fandom, a piece of media NEEDS to leave some questions unanswered. Some relations unshipped. Some plot holes unfilled. Some backstories unwritten. Some lore unexplained. You need possibilities that will keep people up at night. The beautiful thing about an empty lot in a neighborhood is what people make in it

Big controversial opinion coming up, but, Duel of the Fates....was not darth maul's theme.
It had a specific purpose in the prequels, based on the time I've heard it. Once, in the darth maul fight, obviously, where, who lived or died would decide the fate of anakin. Second, in attack of the clones, when anakin rushes to save shmi, where her death would push anakin to the dark side. A third time, in revenge of the sith, when yoda battles sidious, who holds such fate over anakin.
The thing is, whats lost on using this theme for darth maul, is that, he would absolutely want this to be his theme. Maybe they're silly lego specials, but those properties where he sings it may be accurate to that desire. Maybe its a headcanon or me playing death of the author, but I think maul would want to claim this theme because he wants to have a role in fate.
But he doesn't.
The one theme we know was designed specifically for him, is in rebels. A subtle tune. One that sticks in the shadows. The notes progress higher and higher, but go back down slightly. The tune after, feels unsure. The more we hear this, the sadder Kevin Kiner makes it sound. The tune never really amounts to anything.
And I think shadow lord could have absolutely added to this--if not for the marketing. Because in the first episode, we hear duel of the fates play, more loudly and bombastic than we've ever heard(thank the current state of cinematic music smh), and its when we don't know very much about him. Skip ahead to episode 8, he's in the tunnel, he cries, but then he puts the mask back on, and when he stands up, you can hear the theme play, albeit in a blink and you'll miss it way. I really wish this was more expanded on. The marketing kind of makes it fall apart, because it absolutely used the song as just "the darth maul aura farm song"
I just thought this revelation was really interesting. There's a gap between who he wants to be, and who he is, or you could even argue, who he knows himself to be.
New art lol
i think we overlook obi-wan describing anakin as idealistic in ANH a lot.
because obviously, most of what we learn from obi-wan about anakin are seemingly neutral descriptions that match up to luke's: "the best starpilot in the galaxy", "a cunning warrior", and "a good friend", and once star wars becomes a saga and more than a single film, we the fandom all (rightfully, i should add) zoom in on obi-wan lying his ass off about anakin's fate of being "betrayed and murdered" by vader. but this one indirect description is very telling to me in hindsight.
while obi-wan describes the clone wars as a "damn-fool idealistic crusade", the fact that anakin fought in that war and was "killed" by the end of it implies that obi-wan associated anakin with these descriptors too. and it's telling too in the context of the PT: in TPM, anakin believed the jedi could do genuine good in the galaxy and he wanted to free the enslaved of tatooine. even in ROTS where obi-wan could see him, anakin wanted to save the common clone pilot even during critical missions. a trait that he shares with padmé, who wishes for peace and governmental reform.
did obi-wan perhaps see this compassion and love as idealistic, possibly even too idealistic for his own good (on top of being attached and not traditionally jedi)? could i dare say that the jedi (embodied by obi-wan in much of the saga) sought to see themselves as free of attachment because it was too idealistic and even foolish to save everyone?
(it's the classic case of a cynic and "realist" seeing idealism as childish, and in anakin-vader's case, the cynic is born from the ashes of a quite literally burnt idealist. but in the end, star wars is at heart an idealistic story. luke's [and padmé's] idealism is vindicated in the end, and by extension, so is anakin's.)

"Yes there is a general right and wrong, but it's context dependent and you can't rely on religious institutions to implement 100% of them for you" was a really nice message Acolyte clearly wanted to explore.
And absolutely no one was ready for that conversation.
