The new Odyssey adaptation has inevitably gotten people talking about a Muppet version of it, and they’re frequently suggesting Kermit as Odysseus, Miss Piggy as Penelope.
I’m sorry but that’s thinking way too small, hear me out:
We need to have Miss Piggy as Odysseus, and Kermit as Penelope.
Think about it… who’s the more fickle, prideful, warlike one in that relationship? Who is absolutely ready to go ham, at a moment’s notice?

Or, stick with me because I know this breaks Muppets convention, but Gonzo is Odysseus and Camilla as Penelope.
Kermit is Homer reciting the epic (à la Gonzo as Dickens in Muppet Christmas Carol). Miss Piggy? She can have her pick of literal Goddesses, Queens, Helen? Miss Piggy would love to be the face that launched a thousand ships.
I see this works in two additional ways: it brings back Kermit as a reporter, reporting magical stories where the people he’s reporting on keep falling in love with him
AND it allows for the suitors to be salivating over eating Camilla, raising the stakes considerably. It also, I believe, appropriately conveys the concept of homosphryne, the deep and abiding connection between Odysseus and Penelope.
Bonus third: watching a chicken weave would be incredibly hilarious.

Just saw a tweet like "REAL libraries check for quality!" as some kinda gotcha at AO3?? But I'm a librarian, so... heads up that "quality checks," AKA "weeding" or "pulling," means looking for damaged books or ones that haven't circulated in a few years to clear up shelf space. We don't Quality Check for if the library books have nontoxic romance or good grammar. :U I assure you every library in your area has absolute ABOMINATIONS of bad storytelling as well as your favorite pop lit.
