Saw this on imgur, unfortunately sourceless.
A very cynical view of a top-down hierarchy system!
Very true!!
Nice!
Change
According to Larkin and Larkin “…management should communicate only the facts during a major change, not try to dress the change up in lofty-sounding values, pithy slogans, or vision statements” (OCAG, p. 342).
If in a position of power in an organization would you suggest this type of method to the organization ? Or is communicating values as well to your employees during change a must?
I personally feel there needs to be a balance between both of your options. Power can allow you to make decisions for a whole but if you don't have the support to follow through with the decisions then it means nothing.
This video connects to organizational change discussed in Chapter 10. It shows how CHANGE is the key to being a successful organization.

The government is the most powerful institution in society Corporations are the most powerful institutions in society
OCAG P.253
My first thought is that the government is the most powerful, but after more examination, I think that corporations control the government in today’s special interest group laden America.
My conclusion of this brief analysis is that money is the source of all power.
What are your thoughts?
(via thesharkeye)
I agree that money is one of the biggest sources of power in our society. Money seems to be at the root of any decision that is made, whether it be by governments, schools, organizations, etc.
(via okinawabeach)
I agree. Money is a huge power factor, even for us college students. Sometimes, you cant do what you want to do because of no money. Same goes for colleges and organizations as well.
(via nropp1030) Money is in the eye of the beholder!
In this audio I give the example of the early education system that used the Common Core State Standards to determine what would be taught in schools as an example of hegemony.
I asked a rhetorical question of who decides what's common, but it's quite clear the government determines that.
Truth.
I found this article to be interesting because it compares Transformational and Charismatic Leadership communications almost closely to each other. For example, Transformational Leadership would be the topic and Charismatic Leadership would be the subtopic. Charismatic Leadership's communication is considered to be a more personal and specific leadership style which is why four attributes used to describe it are: extraordinary gifts, presence in crisis, ability to present radical solutions, and transcendent powers. Whereas Transformational Leadership's communicatiion uses the four attributes of: influence, inspire, communicate, and motivate.
The article is not very long and it's actual interesting to read about the experiment conducted on defining charisma which essentially was defined as a trait of a leader. It compares a leadership style that we have just learned about to one we recently learned about.
Trust your intuition, but when in doubt trust Endya.

I found it interesting that so many organizations have developed this ritual to define leadership skills/abilities when according to the CCO perspective, leadership cannot be "objectively categorized". However, since definig a leader has been a norm in our society, I wonder will we as an individualistic society ever be able to get out of that mindset of trying to define a leader.
I found this article to be interesting because in my opinion it connects to the concept of Interorganizational relationships. The concept involves multiple forms of interactions with organizations to essentially stay up to date with society. Social Networking is one possible form of interaction because it can allow an organization to promote themselves, learn more about other organizations, etc. However, this article also highlights the damage that can be done by using social networking to develop relationships. According to the article, other organizations can see it as a sign of weakness sense social networking takes so little effort
Connecting through Social Relationships and Networks
If you were to have your own corporate business which dynamics in relationships would you see occur more among workers in your organization, equality-inequality or connection-autonomy?
If I had my own business, I would probably see more connection-autonomy because I would want an organization that is more personal with one another rather than hierarchical. I feel that just leads to too much competitiveness when we can all just achieve together.
Make the RIght Choice!
Choose to live your dreams
.This is as real as it gets. I like this!
My opinion on organizations "socializing" individuals into the organization's culture. My quote can be found on page 125 in the second paragraph.

Rational
A few weeks ago I posted a quote from the Annette Simmons book that said humans aren’t rational.
Today in my communication theory class, the assumption of one of the theory we learned today was that humans are rational and make rational decisions.
Can both of these be possible because one deals with relationship decisions and the other deals with all decisions?
I don't believe both of these can be true. It's one of those things where you have to chose what you believe then go from there. I use to believe we as humans were somewhat rational but after taking this Organizational Communication course, my perspective has changed.
With being a psychology major it is kind of second nature for me to find scholarly articles that connect to topics. So, after reading today's class reading it made me want to find an article that connected to identities in organizations. the article is fairly brief and actually interesting. This article not only discuss how individuals identify themselves based of their function or role in organization but their identity is also influenced by their need to enhance their prestige, their social interactions, and networks.
