Luckily, I had a lot more time than records back then and after many repeated listens, I started to get it. I like to think that in some very literal sense, I grew up with this record. I’m sure that the emotional depth of those songs is one reason why I’ve listened to Hüsker Dü far than their contemporaries in the intervening decades. Bob Mould has said that he wanted Hüsker Dü to be the best band in the world and I suspect that for a hot minute sometime in the mid-80’s they were just that. Thank you for all the beautiful music Grant and rest in peace. I DÜ remember.

The new album from The Stevens is streaming ahead of its release this Friday. I listened to it four times in row yesterday afternoon.
