I haven't been able to get more than scribbles and notes done lately so I turned to reading old favourites. This book series in particular is my favourite from Richelle Mead. Even better I had the first two books but when I went to buy the rest of the series I could never find the same cover art. So I settled with the Kobo versions and just kept looking. Within the last two weeks I was able to finish the while collection in matching trade paperback covers. That's over ten years of searching. The number one piece of advice that has helped me start writing. I am not sure who to credit but its choice advice. Everyone tells you don't worry about the editing and rules. Just write! Write every day and don't stop. For me this didn't help at all. My brain felt like if I wrote it or typed it it had to be this grandiose thing. And when it wasn't I felt like there was no point in putting pen to paper until I had something worthy of Holly Black herself. So I saw this piece of advice and I opened my notebook that was maybe 1/4 full and I wrote at the top of the next blank page: Random ramblings that are crap. And you know what... it worked. Suddenly I'm writing on every scrap piece of paper close to me, I've filled a notebook. I've used up half a deck of queue cards! So take the pressure off and write some crap.
