Long post about something I noticed with the very interesting and clearly deliberate evolution of Azz's hairstyle in Irumafia
(spoilers for Irumafia's Alice arc)
As a child, he's got bangs covering his entire forehead (more or less)

2. After the beatdown with Eito, Eito uses his own bloody palm to sweep the hair back on his left side. After that, he seems to consistently maintain that style, all through school, rookie training and even when he joins Babyls undercover as a made-man.
All the way to the 3-way confrontation between Alice, Eito and Iruma, and Alice and Eito's conversation in the safehouse afterwards:
3. He loses the swept-back bangs when Eito slams him into the table, and then stays that way for all of the showdown during Urara's auction.
This is pretty clearly deliberate too, we see a flashback panel next to 'present' Azz and you can see the deliberate sweep back
Until he sweeps the hair back himself during That Scene
Then of course we have bandaged Azz for a while, whose entire bangs are covered/pushed back due to bandages. Once he's back in action with an eyepatch, it's weirdly over the bangs, such that you can tell the bangs are still down. Even though it would definitely make so much more sense to have the hair pushed back away from the patch!
4. Then we get the scene where Iruma grooms Azz and Clara's hair during the Sagra arc, and here Iruma braids back Azz's left side hair to stay away from his burn:
5. And then the next time we see Alice after this arc, he's finally healed enough to lose the patch. But! he still keeps the braid and I don't think we have seen him without this hairstyle since:
(PS: I love the attention to detail and continuity in this manga's art. During the explosion with Eito, you could see that Azz's ear was bloody and the outline was sorta irregular too. Notice in the final full image - his ear also has a notch from that injury. This is clearly not a major focus of the narrative, and yet something that was paid attention to!)
I think we're all aware of the narrative weight of this panel, but let me talk about the fact the Iruma says it with a smile on his face, relaxed despite the situation he's in.
We've been explicitly shown that Iruma has always wanted to tell Azz and Clara the truth. He's been hell bent on being the one whom they hear it from and he has been waiting for the right time.
Currently, the time isn't right, at all. He wasn't ready and this isn't how he imagined it to go, collared and cornered. It's basically forced out of him, but I believe it's not, because telling them the truth himself is the one thing he has control on, and he chooses to do it.
Between "telling them" and "telling them at the right time", Iruma chooses the former because he can't have Azz and Clara being told the truth of his identity by anyone other than him because that's a promise he has made to himself. Because in the end the right time doesn't matter when it comes to his soulmates, they just need to know, and they need to know it from him.
And that is why he feels relief because all his plans may have gone down the drain but he won't let his heart's greatest desire not come true.

Bro imagine being in Irumas shoes with Kirio here. Like, you go to a school that scares the shit outta you, you meet this kind upper classmen who makes you feel comfortable. He then tries to kill everyone for some reason??? You don't see him for like a year, then the next time you do he talks about eating and killing you??? I dont think Iruma is stupid here, I think that the being surprised at the switch up is genuinely a reasonable response. Cuz like, if my new friend did that too I would also be inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt ngl

Just finished up with Alice's storyline in Irumafia. And *chills* is saying too too little.
Mafia AU Ifrit sensei/sempai and Azz relationship took me completely by surprise but also it's just so fucking compelling. Still: one bit of major similarity that I couldn't help but notice:
Whatever the world, Eito thinks Alice is too skilled and gets annoyed about his superiors not evaluating him highly enough!
(I am assuming this means that the police assassins sent after Azz in the safe house were not part of Eito's plans, but sent by his boss (whoever he is. I wonder if he's going to turn out to be Narnia or Nightwalker))
This is also making me soo curious about Eito in the main universe. I'd love to see more of him. I wonder if he's going to end up mentoring Azz in fire magic? In one the extras, the Mafia AU writer said that it was Nishi-sensei who insisted on Eito being the one to play this role for Azz in the story. So I assume this means they have plans for him in main universe too?
Main universe Azz and Sabro seem to be odd ones out amongst the misfit class in that their master Balam is more closely associated with Iruma instead of uniquely with them, and he ends up being the only one of the masters who is not the source of the 'special jewellery gifts' that everyone got before 2nd year started.
I wonder if this means they are both going to get additional special mentorship to take their magics to the next level - Azz with fire-magic training and Sabro with his artifact-making skill (probably by his dad, which means we'll get a reconciliation arc with or without the Sabnock siblings realizing the truth about their uncle who they idolize)
I hope Eito sensei is juuust a tad unhinged about Azz-Azz in the main canon, just like Eito sempai was a loooot unhinged about Alice-kun in the Mafia AU.
(I also look forward to his return in Mafia AU. Given that the above panel in Mafia AU is preceded by massive 'I HATE HOW THE POLICE IS RIGHT NOW', it would not be out of nowhere for Eito to get won over on Iruma's side eventually too.)
