Ghirri by Luigi GhirriÂ
Luigi Ghirri (1943-1992) was an extraordinary photographer as well as a prolific writer and curator. He is considered to be the most important Italian photographer of the twentieth century. Ghirriâs work covers a wide range of subjects mostly photographed in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. His photos are presented in a deadpan manner that is occasionally humorous and often rooted in art history. Ghirriâs landscapes are a contemporary interpretation of Metaphysical painting in their mysteriousness and dreamlike atmospheres. They explore photographic traditions and highlight a fascination with everyday life. Luigi Ghirri studied as a surveyor and as a graphic designer. He began taking photographs professionally at the age of 30. Shortly after, his work began attracting international attention. Time-Life magazineâs 1975 annual Photography Year Edition chose him as âDiscovery of the Yearâ. In 1977, Ghirri founded a publishing house, Punto e Virgola, with his wife Paola Borgonzoni Ghirri. The establishment was able to support the growth of Italian photographic culture, publish important artist monographs and educate an audience that had little knowledge of photographic practice as an art form. In 1979 he published the first photobook of his own images, Kodachrome. [artuner]

More inspiration for my final 30 photo book
Episode 2.11 - Noah KalinaÂ
A few years ago, Noah hosted two photobook meetups at his Williamsburg studio. He organized them with Jorg Colberg and I after several months of chatting about photography and photobooks. We liked the idea of a small group of people pulling books from their collections and sharing them with a small group. Itâs a great way to experience photobooks.
The last month Olia and Russet of 10x10 Photobooks have organized two photobook salons here in New York and theyâve gone very well. Itâs a great format for browsing photobooks, and mingling with like minded people.
Iâve kept in touch with Noah the last few years and feel like Iâve been following his feeds since Iâve been on the internet: Flickr Twitter Tumblr, Instagram, Vine
I appreciate how he approaches each platform and attempts work within the adopted aesthetic. His 'everyday' project went viral a few years ago and thatâs probably how many people know his work but since then heâs built an impressive list of projects.
I always enjoy his landscape photographs from Upstate New York when the come through my feeds, but I also grin at his Instgram projects, and admire his dedication to Vine. When I visited him at his studio we tossed a bunch of prints on the table from his 35mm snapshot project 'pictures that look like this' and talked about how itâd look in a book. Iâm sure itâll happen one day. He has a lot of projects and ideas, which is why I appreciate his work as much as I do. On top of it, he shoots for GE, Leviâs, Wired, Disney, Gold Digest, Bloomberg and a bunch of others.
We were excited he joined in Bushwick to chat about his book Primed, as well as Larry Sultanâs âThe Valleyâ and âOn This Siteâ by Joel Sternfeld. Two great books. I think itâs been interesting how our guests have pulled out some classics for the show. I think thatâs important. Weâre aiming for a mix of the new, the classic and the old and unknown. It makes this podcast a fun project for me.Â

Looking at these for inspiration for my final 30 photo book for my Digital Photography
Been messing about with some of my sunset pictures and the new Fragment app.
Many books are just too superficial in my opinion. They do not feel ânecessaryâ other than seemingly to fill a void in some personâs ego or desire to be noticed. A lot of photographers â and this is not limited by any means to the younger ones â seem to have a few interesting photos under their belt and then think theyâll make a book, so they just repeat themselves 47 more times and there you have it.

Summer Project
This summer I wanted to continue making work, but also create something that I could potentially sell and make some money from. I decided to start looking at creating or covering sketchbooks and notebooks. I got my hands on some old map books and stamps and had a look on Pinterest for some inspiration. Here's how I've been getting on so far! These items will at some point be going up on my Etsy page, so I will post a link to that when they're up :)
Digital Art and Media
As part of our digital art and media project we had to work in a group and create a short film. We decided to film some of our favourite places around Portsmouth and put it together like a journey through these places in a day.
Abandoned Spaces by Alex Luyckx
Budding photographers are everywhere, but not everyone can excel in the craft using both analogue and digital mediums. When you look at Alex Luyckxâs body of work, however, you realize that there masterfully skilled and gifted people out there who can shoot staggering regardless of what camera or what medium there is. And if that wasnât fascinating enough, this talented gentleman with an obvious devotion for film also develops and prints his own images. Many of his shots are of scenes of everyday life and abandoned spaces seemingly tucked with little tales of their own. http://bit.ly/1fj9EC3
