Will and Max making each other almost break character

Second regeneration: the doctor is forced to get help from the people he ran away from, knowing perfectly well what they'll do to him, but his companions don't understand the mavity of the situation, they just think he'll think of something, wiggle out of it, like he always does, so they tempt him to run away and for only a moment he believes there's hope before the time lords seize his ship and put him on trial for the crime of wanting freedom, his companions still think there's a chance but even that escape attempt is crushed and there is absolutely nothing the doctor can do as his friends are taken away from him and their memories wiped, and however much the time lords let him plead his case they are going to kill and exile him and there's nothing he can do, nothing he can do at all
